Arkenian Sunbeast #375

General

One of the biggest predators of the icy wastes, the arkenian sunbeast is known for being a ferocious warrior. Rivaling nandi bears in size, the sight of one closing in over the snow can frighten even the most stalwart person. Its large claws are slightly serrated on the underside, giving it better grip on the slippery ground of its homeland. Small pieces of mother-of-pearl are embedded in the sunbeast's mane, making it gleam like a field of ice in the sunlight. This creature can make its horns glow with an inner light. When the pieces in its mane catch this light, it is reflected and intensified, blinding those who look at it with the dazzling display. Before pouncing on their prey, sunbeasts use this power to keep it from running away, ensuring a quick catch. It is also used during mating rituals, the males blazing as brightly as they can to impress the females.

Egg

Several sharp golden points jut out from the top of this egg.

Hatchling

Arkenian sunbeast hatchlings are completely covered in soft, pale fur, except for their bushy blue manes. They are already showing the powerful build they will have as adults, but are clumsy and not yet quite in control of their movements. A lot of their time is spent sleeping. When they are awake, they demand food quite vigorously, growling loudly and bumping their tiny horns against the leg of their Magi if they don't get the attention they demand.

Adult

Once grown up, arkenian sunbeasts are a force to be reckoned with. With their sharp teeth and claws, running afoul of one can easily lead to serious injuries. They exude a menacing aura that will make animals uncomfortable, sometimes even sending more skittish ones into full flight by their mere presence. Even experienced warhorses will rear up in fright if the sunbeast decides to roar at them. For that reason, these creatures are rarely brought into heavily populated areas. Their natural prey are elk and reindeer. In the Keep, measures are taken to separate these from the sunbeasts, as they are easily agitated by the presence of their main predators. To their magi, however, sunbeasts are very gentle, begging for treats or cuddling close like big kittens.
