Zander Entry #1 The Stream

Post by Zander »

After trekking through the vast plains, climbing hills almost as steep as mountains, you come across a stream. A creek, though shallow, you can still see large objects floating down towards you. The objects are strange, they must be odd shaped logs... or chunks of grass brought to the small creek by and animal knocking down a chunk of land that was mostly eroded away. As they come closer you realize they're, well eggs. Eggs floating down stream? Such curious looking eggs too, like none you have seen before. Maybe you should take one.

About the photo/area:
This is of a creek in my back yard, well for the most part lol. You see its actually over the highway on the other half of my farm which is only about 120 acres. This creek is the main water source for all the animals in the area. The deer cross the highway every time at the same time (there are a couple different herds) to eat on one side of the highway and drink on the other side. Bald eagles are also a common sight near this creek, mostly because when a poor deer gets hit by a car I take it down to where pets and other animals wont be hit as well. The eagles used to be a rare sight, for a little bit they didn't exist because they were close to endangered, now I see at least 5 at a time when a poor deer is down there. Don't be fooled by how brown the water looks, its actually almost clear. The brown is dirt and sand being washed downstream because of a recent storm. Looking straight down the water looks crystal clear.

My four entries were all taken at the same place and time, mostly due to a lack of time for me to get these shots. Due to the farm being 2 hours away and me working. I planned for there to be fog, but it never showed up again after the day I saw it. And sadly it had cleared by the time I got to the farm that day. Since I was limited to a small area I made it my goal to make this tiny, less than a half a mile, area look as diverse as possible. Many shots were taken looking downstream and upstream only a couple steps away from others.

Those 3 "eggs" in the photo happen to be logs stuck in the sand and clay.
