Hatchling
Spoiler
With a powerful thrash the copei bursts from its egg, sending shell shards flying everywhere. An arrow-shaped, bony head moves slowly from side to side as the little hatchling crawls along the ground. It looks up at you for a moment, then turns and heads towards the lake where you brought it to hatch. Slowly the copei drags itself to the edge of the water, but as soon as it touches the shallows it whips its tail and takes off into the waves, disappearing in a cloud of disturbed mud. The copei will spend most of its life in the water, feeding on any moving thing that happens to swim near it.
Adult
Spoiler
Your copei has grown into a sleek underwater predator, gliding through the lakes and streams near the Keep with amazing speed and stealth. Its legs continue to stay fairly weak and are inefficient on the land, causing it to be very slow and vulnerable out of the water. On land it must be watched closely else it gets itself stuck in a shallow ditch. It has grown to be the length of your arm but it doesn't seem like it is getting any larger.
General
Spoiler
The copei is one of the oldest creatures known to magi. They have been around longer than even the earliest dragons. Their power has helped them survive millennia through even the harshest of events, for they can freeze themselves in time in a sort of hibernation, during which they cannot be affected by anything. This power can extend to other objects around it, and it is not unheard of for a companion copei to freeze itself and its magi in time during terrible storms or other life-threatening situations, waiting until the danger passes. It is also not unheard of for a copei to play pranks on magi it doesn't like by freezing them for a day or more. Magi know not to mess with a copei else they wake finding they've lost a week and having no clue any time has passed.

I Googled the word "copei" and it brought me to the Wikipedia page for Edmontosaurus. Apparently the name has to do with crestless hadrosaur, a type of dinosaur. Also, the egg looks like an Anaugi egg but a different colour and shinier, so that's interesting.

Can't wait to see what pops out. :D
