June Mid-Month | #1014: Albephas

Spoiler
Albephas hatchlings are curious, playful creatures, and are eager to please. They have vast amounts of energy, which they prefer to spend skipping by their magi's heels or exploring the grounds around the keep. Their diminutive size and tendency to run off after something that sparks their interest, however, makes them easy to lose track of, so some magi prefer to keep them on a small leash. However, this can be dangerous if the magi is unprepared, as the strength of an Albephas hatchling can mean an unwary magi can be yanked off their feet. Albephas hatchlings never mean to cause trouble, though, and are very apologetic if this happens, drooping their ears and reassuring their magi with playful caresses of their trunk.
Image
Spoiler
By the time they reach adulthood, Albephas have learned their own strength and are careful around other creatures and their magi. Though they are often used as guards, they are very empathic creatures, and would be just as happy snuggling up with their magi as they would deterring any would-be thieves from artifacts or treasures. They enjoy traveling with their magi and even playing fetch, although they often seem confused by the light weight of the things their magi chooses to throw. Sometimes Albephas will try to throw things for their magi as well, but this usually results in them throwing a ball or toy so far away that it can't be found.
Spoiler
Albephas are regal-looking creatures, with sharp tusks and a proud posture. They are also incredibly intelligent. They never forget anything they are taught. In addition, they often develop a great amount of respect for ancient artifacts, being naturally drawn to old ruins or burial sites where treasures can be found. Some suspect they are able to smell some aspect of age with their trunks. However, this isn't the only reason they are often used as guards for temples and places of worship. They are tiny creatures, only about the size of a large dog, but their small size hides incredible strength. They are as strong as a full-size elephant, able to lift hundreds of pounds with ease. When compared to their body-weight, some magi deem them the strongest creatures in the world. Any potential temple thief or troublemaker knows not to mess with an Albephas.

Hatchling. :D It's so cute! Used a gender change potion and there doesn't seem to be any dimorphism in the hatchlings. c:
