Newest Creature: Elred #981 (Female Only!)

Post by crystalwings »

New critter! Found in our local Remy's Inn :woo:

Creature: Elred

Location: Remy's Inn
  • Image7,500g
Hatching Speed: I had to add this in... EXTREMELY slow

Egg:
Image
Spoiler
This patterned egg seems to radiate warmth, and smells faintly like hay.
Hatchling:
Image (Female only species)
Spoiler
The little calf struggles to its feet as it emerges from its egg, but within an hour it is happily trotting around behind its mother. But for their distinct brown, gray, and white patterns, elred would seem much like any other cattle; they drink milk for the first few months of life, then graduate on to grass. Elred calves are somewhat less wary than true cows, for they are protected from nearly any threat by their magical abilities. Athis young age, an elred is unable to produce milk, but it can use the life force of those around it to further its own life. Normally this means that an elred will live to a very old age, but when in danger, it also allows an elred to drain the life of its assailant. To attack an elred can be a fatal move.

Spoiler
Elreds are among the most passive of creatures, affectionate but simple-minded and content to keep to their own most of the time. This gentle nature stems largely from how elred have no natural enemies, and if attacked, merely drain the life force of their attacker to heal themselves. This is an automatic response to physical damage most of the time, and elreds cannot attack others with this ability. They can, however, choose not to drain a life force with their magic. For reasons no one quite understands, even though they possess the potential to live forever, most elreds slowly choose to let themselves age over the course of a century or so. They continue to produce milk throughout their lives, however, making them exceedingly valuable. However, they won't ever breed to produce new elred; all elred are born female, and cannot reproduce with normal cows.
General
Spoiler
Only one in a hundred thousand cows births an elred instead of its usual kin, but these rare and majestic creatures have been cherished for many centuries. Foenara is home to the largest elred herds, and has been ever since Suru Nembosai, the ancient ruler of northern Foenara, congregated all of the known elred in the country to start a breeding program. Though elred cannot themselves breed more elred, their peculiar progeny have an increased change of producing one of their parents. Almost all Foenaran elred are descended from this herd, and similar breeding herds have been established worldwide in recent times. The lure of the elred is not for their meat, for most would consider it a grievous crime to slaughter an elred, but rather their milk. Elred milk is the primary ingredient for the fabled elixir of life, which is said to grant long life to those who drink it.

The egg is cute! ^_^ The description and the little horns on the egg make me think of a Red Sindhi or some other zebu dairy cow.

Maybe it will be able to breed with a Delroch.
I am in the process of moving house, so I will not be around much for the foreseeable future.

I was just surprised is all. We don't have many bovine creatures so I wasn't expecting it.
I hope it's cute.
