It's all based on what you want to do. I didn't think it was worth wasting 1k gold each time for an egg so I worked with 15g and 40g. I got tons of fabari of course but I was also fishing for someone else who wanted some of those so it wasn't bad at first but as someone has said you need patience. The higher amount on slightly increases your chance from the sound of it so you'll still get more fabari then the other rarer fish. It is luck based and a gold sink. Like a lottery that lets you buy more than one ticket, you only increase your chance slightly more with the high amounts of gold but it's not a grantee. but good luck to everyone trying!
As the black market is coming up this week I suggest holding off on the fishing till you see what the creatures are in the BM are just to ensure you have gold for that as those are limited time creatures while the fish will always be there.

If I have some extra gold, I'll usually set a limit for myself, like ok, gonna throw in no more than 20k this time and see what I get! It's too addicting sometimes. Though I do agree with CinnaminDraconna... it's another gold sink and a frustrating one for those who don't have large quantities of gold to throw out on chance.
