@VilaWolf:
I have no idea where you pulled that "stupid" and "lazy" kids from since nobody besides you mentioned them and I am fairly certain no one who complained about not getting the reward is actually still a school kid trying to remember locker combinations but alright.
If you know you can't even spare five minutes in two weeks to raise five creatures to adulthood or another five minutes to actually properly read the rules because of school, work, family or anything else then there is a simple solution. Don't sign up. Or don't complain if you've already signed up.
@salt: Oh, you're right, you're right. Think happy thoughts. *mimics even lamer finger guns
Seriously, this thread starts to remind me of DragonCave.

Re: August 2018 Competition - Team Tussle
The problem here is that people didn't know from the beginning that they needed to raise a minimum of 5 creatures to adults to get the prize. No?
Thing is, for a competition to work ok, you kind of need to give all the information that is. And not add things afterwards.
In a way, it should have been specified at the beginning that 5 creatures need to be adults for the prize to be won and besides that, in most, if not all competitions the prize is stated at the begining, not left a mistery for the people. This is so people would know what to expect - it also avoids the drama that comes afterwards.
Now, the problem with the 5 creatures is this: If we knew from the beginning, some people would have done that and nothing else to assure they get the prize. Since we didn't know, well, we know what happened.
Can't really please everyone, unfortunately.
That aside, for those of us who aren't new to the site, we should have expected the 5 creatures thing, from past experiences.
Here's another thing you should all think about. How many of your would have joined the competition if there was absolutely no prize involved at the end? You should stop accusing someone of wanting a prize, because in the end, we're all humans and we all want some sort of a reward for whatever effort we put into the competition.
I really didn't want to get involved in this but for some reason this competition is starting to turn the once nice community into one filled with hatred.
A thought for magi mods. Have you guys ever considered putting up one of those Google things - I don't know what they're called - after a competition ends, where people can give feedback as anons? It might be a helpful thing for future competitions and whatnot.

Re: August 2018 Competition - Team Tussle
Congrats to everyone, and thank you for the fun. This is the most I have posted at once in any given time period on the forum since I joined. I'm not always able to be around but I clicked when I could and put eggs into IFN and such. Though I incurred a bout of minor insanity from the potato overload and listening to potoo(to) cries for several days in a row, it was an interesting experience. The prizes are very cool, and if the breed count is not limited for them I will likely have my wyrms contribute to other peoples' collections semi-regularly. I will now go back to lurking, emerging from my lair only occasionally to swap creatures around or set up another insanely huge auction. May the friendly celebrations continue.

We'll have to think about that soon enough if the drama keeps going. Remember the GBs.Real wrote:Here's another thing you should all think about. How many of your would have joined the competition if there was absolutely no prize involved at the end?
Rewards are rewards. I would still have participated without one, but I wasn't expecting handouts, even if 5 eggs isn't that much effort.

I mean, it said to raise adults. There's no excuse why anyone couldn't. I was pretty busy over the two weeks but I was still able to raise 100 hatchlings. If you're so busy, throw them in yarolds, the IFN, the hatchery. Get team mates to help raise them.
There's no justifying people's laziness. If you don't want to help your team, don't sign up for a team competition.
It's stupid that people are trying to make drama about this.

Re: August 2018 Competition - Team Tussle
To me, the problem here is all the hostility towards... everyone. I've seen this before on Magistream from members and moderators alike, and it really turns me off to this community, which I see as immature, aggressive, and toxic at times.
Even if you think someone has been "lazy", why are you voicing this over and over again in public? What's the point of lambasting and insulting someone in a public forum? It makes the community hostile and mean-spirited. Yes, that person did post first that he was "bit salty" - why is it so hard for this community to let something like that go instead of burning them alive? I've seen this before, when someone's not 100% satisfied with a contest - everyone jumps on them, insults them, even moderators, and the entire thread becomes beating a dead horse. Do you really need 5 posts saying the same exact thing to someone in a hostile tone over and over again? Why are witch-hunts like this allowed and encouraged?
There are always going to be dissenters for anything. Jumping down their throats and devolving into insult-fights in a public forum is embarrassing, especially when it's full-grown adults talking about children. The fact that the moderators let this continue and encourage this behavior is even more off-putting.
If someone says something truly out of line, the person involved should be PMed by a moderator and their post should be removed if necessary, and that should be the end of it. It's disgusting to me that there's such an emphasis on embarrassing and insulting someone in a public forum. "One person was a bit rude, so let's all be even ruder and jump down their throat!" Why?

It actually was in the original announcement, not added later:Real wrote:The problem here is that people didn't know from the beginning that they needed to raise a minimum of 5 creatures to adults to get the prize. No?

-snip-
"You must raise the creatures to adult for their points to count. Each adult creature in a team member's Keep will be counted regardless of which tab the creature is in."
As far as the count - announcing that up front would cause a lot of people to do the bare minimum and nothing else to help. Also, you don't announce the price of a gift in general. Gift receipts skip the price on the receipt for a reason ;)
It's sort of a bandwagon defense system that exists most places. MagiStream isn't a hostile community at heart, but this engagement is definitely not helping that outlook.Fishbone wrote:To me, the problem here is all the hostility towards... everyone. People will be upset. There will always be people upset - engaging them definitely doesn't help the problem though. Let them complain and move on. We had fun, and most of those that lost out did so at only a fault of their own. Let sleeping dogs lie, and let's just enjoy the spirit of the competition, and the lovely gifts we received.

Probably true - the only time I really engage with the community is during team competitions like this. I just wish there was a better handle on it, and it wasn't encouraged.Ktanaqui wrote:It's sort of a bandwagon defense system that exists most places. I did enjoy the contest though. (: It was fun.

Re: August 2018 Competition - Team Tussle
Fishbone, you nailed it.
Can we now let this go please?
It happened, yes. Words were said, yes.
Let's get back to what this whole contest was about, having fun, working together, "bashing" other teams in our teamforums, enjoying the togetherness, and leave it at that.
I, for one, had fun. With the help of my teammates I got to a staggering 404 adults, and got one hatchling left.
Our team didn't win, and yet we did. We got beautiful Diamond Wyrms, we made new friends, some of us came out of their hiding places for the first time and joined the forums, and some of us worked quietly on raising their Potootos.
I feel like a winner for all that, and also for the support of my teammates when I had to go to an emotional funeral of a close relative on the very first day of the competition.
I also feel like a winner because I could feel good about my efforts, however small, they were valued.
I saw my eggs being clicked by members from other teams, thank you for that, for being the good sports you are!
Better stop now before I start rambling... too late?
