July Donis - Verlinga and Myrmeco

Post by GrowlingCupcake »

I didn't see a post for this; sorry if I missed it.

3-shard: Verlinga

Image
This pink egg has a big woolly tail and smells vaguely like raspberries.

Hatchling (no dimorphism):
Image
Verlinga hatchlings are friendly right from the moment they hatch, and enjoy being in crowds, especially if people will pause to pet their heavy fur. Their coat is so thick and woolly that they need to be groomed frequently - and shorn when old enough - but this is just fine with hatchling verlinga. When not being given attention, hatchling verlinga spend their time digging in the dirt for small ground-based insects and stealing raspberries and other sweet fruits off unguarded kitchen counters with their long sticky tongues. Solidly coloured until they reach adulthood, hatchling verlinga are unable to use their species' magic until their baby coat falls out and their new markings grow in.

Adult:
Image
An adult verlinga is about the size of a large dog, with short legs and a heavy body. Fortunately they retain their sweet, easygoing natures and are perfectly happy to help their magi out in the garden, both by helping to dig and by using the energy their markings gather from the sun to grow plants. Their favourite plants to grow are, of course, those which bear sweet fruits, but they're willing to grow any other plant with just a few small grumbles. They use their tongues frequently to explore things that their bad eyesight prevents them from seeing properly, and to wake up slumbering magi in order to receive extra attention.

Verlinga are usually found in the southern climes, where their bright fur makes them stand out against the greens of the jungles and the browns of the deserts. During the heat of the day they can often be found sleeping in the sun, recharging the energy they use to help plants grow. Their heavy fur has a tendency towards mats and clumps, but fortunately it can be shorn off and used to weave popular - and thick - blankets that are often sold at festivals.

5-shard: Myrmeco

Image
This white egg has a big woolly tail and growls occasionally.

Hatchling (no dimorphism):
Image
It's fortunate that myrmeco hatchlings are a different colour from their verlinga cousins immediately, as they aren't as friendly and prefer to be left alone. Their coat is so thick and woolly that they need to be groomed frequently - and shorn when old enough - and this can be a day-long event with especially cantankerous myrmeco. When not being coaxed into submission, hatchling myrmeco spend their time hunting down small creatures and inspecting the garbage for especially tasty bits of old meat. The solid white fur of the hatchling myrmeco helps it to blend into the snow of its northern home, which allows its parents to leave it when they need to go out hunting for food.

Adult:
Image
An adult myrmeco is about the size of a large dog, with short legs and a heavy body. Although not necessarily aggressive or hateful of people, they aren't particularly affectionate and will bite when threatened - and they do have sharp teeth and sharper claws. Too slow to hunt, they feed on small creatures that they can ambush, and on carrion found while wandering around their territories. Adult myrmeco usually only stay in pairs until hatchlings are grown, and these hatchlings rarely stay with either of their parents, preferring to strike out in search of their own home.

Myrmeco are usually found in the northern climes, where their white fur can help them hide out in the snow and their golden markings can reflect the sun to help blind any predators. Confident in their various protections, myrmeco spend the day ambling around looking for food and inspecting new things within their territories, and the night snoring in burrows. Their heavy fur has a tendency towards mats and clumps, but fortunately it can be shorn off and used to weave popular - and thick - blankets that are often sold at festivals.

It looks cute but I think I'm going to pass on them since I'm a bit tight this month. I do like how they both look like giant fluffballs with a just a tongue and legs, it's a weird cute.
Cats are a favorite but I'll be happy to accept anything you're willing to gift.
There is a wishlist on my profile if you want more specifics on what I'm looking for.
