Hi,
So, we can't get a % to 0 on a frozen egg? Mine is going up, not down!

Re: Fine Tuning Glass
I think you can get 0%, but it picks randomly from 0-2% each time. So it can go up or down and kinda limits it's practical uses (especially since you can only use them on creatures below a specific percent in the first place).shadowrose45 wrote:Hi,

It goes from 0% to 2% randomly on each use.
You would need around 200 Fine Tuning Glasses (on average) to get a 0.00%. However it could be more or less depending on your luck.

Re: Fine Tuning Glass
I learned the hard way that it is random. I had an 0.01% male Tetzcotal Anaconda hatchling. I always thought it would go down no matter what, so I used it. Of course, it didn't turn to a 0.00% hatchling, it went up.

Re: Fine Tuning Glass
Not just useless...it follows you like a bad penny. Went to buy some of the black market mystery bags and got 4 of the glasses...that I dont even care about? Only got 2 gender change potions (that I did care about) ...sadly used those up already because my pairs of black market creatures decided to be all male instead of m/f.
So yeah useless glass that I dont want stay away!

I'm really glad I read this. I didn't know that. I had assumed it was used to *actually* fine tune to a % you wanted. Oh well. Glad I hadn't tried it on anything yet!

Re: Fine Tuning Glass
Plus it only works if the hatchling or egg is frozen under 5%

No. It's a blessing to those who collect families and freeze hatchlings below 1%. I had tons of hatchlings over 1% and managed to use the Fine Tuning Glass on most of them. Now I finally have only 17 hatchlings to breed. It may not be useful to some, but it's not useless.shadowrose45 wrote:Yeah...completely useless, sigh.

Re: Fine Tuning Glass
I use them for the same thing (but with caterpillars), except the problem is that it has such a very specific situational use that doesn't benefit most players.Enchanteddil wrote:No. It's a blessing to those who collect families and freeze hatchlings below 1%. If you absolutely need everything frozen under 1% sure it can be useful, but only if you manage to catch them before they hit 5%.
If you just collect low % frozen hatchlings of each (like me) there isn't much difference between 1% and 3%, especially with something as common as a stream hatchling.
If you collect 0.00%s, it better be special if you're going to try, because it's probably not worth the effort...
I'm glad it exists even in this convulted form because it allows me to spend 200k+ to get one specific hatchling at 0.00%, but I think a lot of people are frustrated because they expected something that was useful in more situations rather than having a very specific use.
Sort of like a Monkey's Paw - you can have a frozen % changer, but there's a ton of restrictions and a lot of things can't be used on it, and if you collect 0.00%s you're still out of luck.
This combined with the fact that it's an "event" item only obtained during certain times of the month/year/ect, and additionally the lack of bulk purchasing (meaning that yes, you actually have to click buy for all 200 of them) makes it even more restrictive.
I recently blew around 144k (I used around 150 of them at once) trying to get a 0.00% of one of the new doni hatchlings. I did get it eventually, which would have been near-impossible without the glass (or using a ton of chocolates, but that would drain my wallet). But it's really not worth the attempt for most things because of the sheer amount of effort required to click around 400 times to go through 2 screens to buy another glass. And the only reason I spent only 144k on 150ish glasses is because i'm already maxed out on all of the other items, meaning that it's going to be a lot worse for people who didn't max out on those.
Additionally, people didn't know what the item's true function was for several days after it was released due to it being unusable. This gave people a lot of hope for it which may have contributed to the frustation - I already bought 255 of them by the time I learned i'd never need anywhere near that many for anything other than insane hunts that will drain 100-200ish of them per creature.
I think one of the most frustrating things about it is getting a low % but just not the % you wanted.
If it was open to suggestions i'd suggest one or more of the following changes
- Making it so that the glass cannot increase percentage (only decrease by a random % if it's already under 2% - sort of like reverse chocolates.) This would mean that yes, you may need a lot of them if you keep getting low decreases - but you're guaranteed to get it at least if you keep trying. It's not a RNG-based gamble that leaves you frustrated at that 0.05% and regretting not just giving up later when you fail to get any lower. This is the thing i'd personally want the most regarding the glass.
- Making it able to affect creatures below 10%. 5% can be frustrating to get for some people, the most reliable method I have is the IFN since it seems to remove the creature after it hatches before it can get clicked again (even if it isn't clicked as often), but putting the creature in the egg hatching train or in a signature can lead to clicks you really don't want, even if you put "To Hatchling Only" in giant red bold text. People like to click with snaplinks and may just highlight everything, or sometimes just skim over the text and click all the eggs.
- Making them easier to bulk buy/less expensive. I absolutely hate the amount of clicking it takes to get enough (which applies to a lot of other items too). And if absolutely nothing about the mechanics can be changed, maybe have it as a less expensive item that's available more frequently. I think people are annoyed about getting it in grab bags because they have absolutely no use for it because the situation where people use them doesn't really apply as much to them.
