Lol. Actually, it is neither pig nor deer. These are based on entelodonts, which, joy of joys, were real animals. They're thought to be more closely related to hippos and whales than anything else. The descriptions are based on Daeodon, which was one of the largest entelodonts, up to about six feet tall at the shoulder. And yes, they did eat meat.

okay the adults are terrifying but cool! it was definitely hard to tell from the hatchling that it was more porcine (edit: or i guess, more Hippopotamidae, not pigs) than cervidae (though we already kind of got nightmare deer so that makes sense). XD

I think I still like the hedgies best tho b/c hedgies <3
