Typhoon Kajiki
Typhoon (JMA)
Category 4 super typhoon (SSHWS)
Kajiki Oct 20 2007 0530Z.png Kajiki 2007 track.png
Duration October 19 – October 22
Peak intensity 165 km/h (105 mph) (10-min) 940 hPa (mbar)
An area of disturbed weather formed in the open ocean early on October 17, and tracked north-east. The JMA and the JTWC declared this area a tropical depression very early on October 19.[168] Six hours later, it was upgraded to Tropical Storm Kajiki.[169] Rapid intensification continued; another six hours later, it was upgraded to a severe tropical storm.[170][171] Kajiki became a typhoon early on October 20 as it rapidly intensified.[172] The storm reached peak intensity as it hit Iwo Jima and then gradually began weakening. The storm dropped upwards of 233 mm (9.1 in) of rain on the island.[173] The airport on Iwo Jima reported winds gusts up to 140 km/h (85 mph).[174]
Ahha.. so a metaphor for a typhoon. *reads critter's description* Yeup, that fits.

Not really sure why everyone's getting butthurt with you, but I laughed. I respect that a lot of work goes into creature names, but yeaahhhh that was my first impression too.Namyre wrote:All of the recent donis have names like their creator sneezed while typing and they look at the word like, "Yeah, that's okay. A lil update since I've now seen both genders of hatchies, there's no dimorphism.

Spoiler
Istiora hatchlings are curious but not particularly bright, though some researchers think this might just be because they're near-sighted. Either way, a magi raising an istiora should always keep in mind both their long sharp bill and, once they're older, their ability to stun with a single poke or slash. Kajiki istiora hatchlings are attracted to light, especially if it's bright and flashing; an attraction that magi can take advantage of to keep them still for at least a few moments. Unlike paxir, kajiki hatchlings are generally ambivalent about companions, but only so long as those companions are larger or at least more dangerous than them.
Spoiler
Kajiki istiora can be found in oceans all over the world, though they seem to prefer more tropical waters, especially when laying their eggs. Istiora are large, heavy creatures that can not only outgrow many boats, but also outswim them. For this reason - and because the oceans are so large - few magi have been able to study them extensively, and those that do encounter them on the open sea are often driven away by their ability to stun with their bills. Eggs are also well-hidden, but a handful of istiora have been raised by researchers, at least until they outgrow their pools and have to be released. Kajiki istiora are most often spotted during thunderstorms and hurricanes, when they leap out of the water to - according to local fishermen - recharge their stun abilities.

Istiora hatchlings are curious but not particularly bright, though some researchers think this might just be because they're near-sighted. Either way, a magi raising an istiora should always keep in mind both their long sharp bill and, once they're older, their ability to create a shockwave with a single poke or slash. Paxir istiora hatchlings seem to enjoy cool and windy days, and will often play in the waves created by the wind, leaping in and out of the water. However, they also seem to prefer to play alone and while not aggressively territorial, they definitely display unhappiness when confined in a small space with too many other creatures, even other istiora. As they grow, this will usually turn into hunting the other creatures, with an especial fondness for kraken hatchlings, ice octopuses, and smaller ice krakens.
Spoiler
Paxir istiora can be found in oceans all over the world, including the icy waters of the north, though they seem to prefer more temperate zones. Istiora are large, heavy creatures that can not only outgrow many boats, but also outswim them. For this reason - and because the oceans are so large - few magi have been able to study them extensively, and those that do encounter them on the open sea are often driven away by their ability to create a shockwave. Eggs are also well-hidden, but a handful of istiora have been raised by researchers, at least until they outgrow their pools and have to be released. Paxir istiora have been known to break apart ice floes with their shockwave ability, when they travel north; in warmer waters, they will occasionally break small fishing boats in order to steal the day's catch.
