Wait, so these were actually royalty in a past life?!
Like no questions, 100% confirmed to be a dead royal?!
That seems kinda odd for MS lore, though at the moment I can't put my finger on why I feel that way :/
Wait, one more thing!
Dose a royal die every time one is bred? There can only be so many dead royals available before the living supply needs to be tapped into!THESE should be the ones called assassin birds! Just breed em a buncha times and you can kill any royal without having to deal with any security or in the moment consequences!Spoiler
1.
(and if it's to overlook their kingdom one last time they probably have to become birds pretty quickly, unless the king-to-bird system is some kinda bureaucratic thing with a waiting list and stuff, then they'll just get one last look at someone else's kingdom, someone who they probably don't like for that matter! Man being royalty sucks after you die, no rest in death for you! You have to become someone's pet bird and watch your kingdom, and if something happens you're helpless to stop it! YOU'RE BIRD, YOU DON'T HAVE POWER ANYMORE, YOU CAN'T EVEN SPEAK TO GIVE ADVICE TO THE NEW GUYS!)
2.
(Maybe that's why magi are in such a solid position now, "Give us what we want or it becomes dead-royal-bird mating season!")
Sure it's probably gonna cost a couple hundred shards and take a few tries, but to be motivated enough to kill royalty for any reason?! Three bucks will be child's play!
Better hope these don't become popular, or there's gonna be a government collapse pretty soon.
------
*meanwhile in some dark alley*
"I don't think forcing uncomfortably intelligent birds to mate is gonna do anything :/"
"OF COURSE IT WILL, havn't you heard the stories?! We'll get 'em one of these times, just give me another three bucks!"
*a random cousin of the king drops dead*
"darnit, missed by a heir, another three man!"-"alright i'm convinced 0_0"
*random princes from halfway across the world drops dead mid-musical-number*
"whelp, there goes the new disney movie! Another, we're narrowing it down, three more!"
*guy trying to usurp his father with bird breeding drops dead*
"in hindsight this was a stupid plan, i'm probably not getting paid for this...Oh well i'll get my pay in another way, these free eggs will sell for a high price in Waynal!"
So remember guy's, if someone tries to sell you an Alcelon, they're probably a hitman!

Re: May midmonth - Alcelon
I would love to hear more about superstition in different parts of the MS-world, especially in those parts a bit away from the Keep where magis' knowledge of all those animals hasn't cleared some of them up yet. For example silly things, like 'don't pick up a phoenix feather at dusk' or 'this creature looks different depending on the time it hatches, so duct tape the shell if you have to, but for gods' sakes, don't let it out at 2:17 in the afternoon. Just don't' xDMorgaln wrote:Or maybe this is just superstition...
... also, we don't have a name for that world/continent/kingdom(? - if we have royals...)/area yet, do we? I never thought about it before, but couldn't find anything right now.

Yea, that's probably the most plausible answer but that's not as much fun to write a few bits on.
But that last sentence was kinda confusing, do the magi believe this theory as well?

Morgaln, aren't you in some form viewed as a monarch in some parts of the land?Morgaln wrote:Well, you are a magi, do you believe it?blockEdragon wrote:Yea, that's probably the most plausible answer but that's not as much fun to write a few bits on.Morgaln wrote:Or maybe this is just superstition...

Nope, the Keep doesn't have a king, just a council with a head magi (currently Archmage Thane). I'm just head of law enforcement, not even noble.Blazen749 wrote:Morgaln, aren't you in some form viewed as a monarch in some parts of the land?Morgaln wrote:Well, you are a magi, do you believe it?blockEdragon wrote: Yea, that's probably the most plausible answer but that's not as much fun to write a few bits on.

I was kinda asking from a lore standpoint -_-

As with every belief, there are those who firmly believe it's true, those who think it's complete nonsense, and various stages in between. There are likely various theories how it works, including but not limited to:blockEdragon wrote:OMG REALLY?Morgaln wrote:Well, you are a magi, do you believe it?blockEdragon wrote:

- An Alcelon can only lay an egg if there is a royal spirit available. There's probably a queue somewhere, where dead kings are standing in line, filling out their application forms to be Alcelone'd and grumble about how badly all of this is organized, how their kingdom could have processed things much better, and why that guy over there is ahead of them in line when they ruled much longer than that pretentious upstart. Occasionally, there's a row between two monarchs who happened to meet on the battlefield and aren't in agreement over the outcome; likely caused by the winner being annoyed that the loser is ahead, although the guy wouldn't even be in the queue if they hadn't lost the fight in the first place. And of course now and then someone is shouting: "Can we open another line already, it's not like we're decaying here..."
Okay, I guess I got a bit carried away here, back to the actual topic:
- Whenever an Alcelon gets born, another Alcelon must die to free up a king. There are probably those who claim this is a sign that Alcelons belong into the Phoenix group of creatures.
- Anything remotely considered a king is fair game. Since this includes things like lions, winners of various contests (like the king of the watermelon seed spitting contest of the Callisto Isles, held annually since 1568) and any leader that existed in history and before, there are so many eligible spirits floating around that finding one is a non-issue.

Wow, gorgeous! That is so beautiful. And the description is epic! Loving the speculations you guys are coming up with. Hitman birdbreeders.Lupin wrote:
Adult Description:Spoiler
An adult alcelon is an impressive sight despite its relatively small size, especially in the sun where the light can reflect off its crown and glow blue on its feathers. As adults they have been observed using bidents of wood to help them hunt fish. Seeing one is considered an omen of a peaceful time approaching, and many people believe it brings great luck to a village to have alcelon nesting nearby. Intelligent and quiet, alcelon are also good parents and usually mate for life. Their crown grows with them and though there are rumours of these crowns fetching a staggering price if removed from the alcelon, most magi feel this is not only cruel, but impossible.
