I was certain EA would win the title for being first to sanction someone for doing something in a single-player mode game. But nope

"imagination and creativity run free..."
Player invents a story where NPCs are actually HELPFUL and the player gets a decent amount of XP
"YOU ARE BANNED!"

The idiotic step taken by this company is making me laugh
This would be the best April fools article ever.

And Ubisoft...?

Weren't you making fun of EA for their handling of microtransactions before? :orly:

"Oh no, people don't want to pay for our probably too pricey boosters, let's do it so they can't do whatever they want with the tool we gave them. They're only allowed to play the game how we want it, by throwing money at us."

Pretty much what I hear. Is ridiculously, is a single player game, let people break it as much as they want lmao. No one wanna pay money for a fucking booster.

This is the first i'm hearing of this and it sounds absolutely scummy and bizarre. I'm actually not that surprised that it's Ubisoft though, i'm still kinda surprised it's NOT EA but Ubisoft is a pretty scummy company at times. They basically laid the groundwork to ruining the industry with "LIVE SEEERVICES" which basically turn video games into a rental grinding service based around daily maintenance and milking EVERYTHING out of a player with non-stop micro-transactions - MMO style. I'd wager that if EA ever falls they'll become the next EA over time.

EA and Ubisoft having a conversation on top of their mountain of money:

EA: Look ubi, everything the shady business practices touch is out kingdom.

Ubi: Wow!

EA: a company's time as scum-lords rises and falls like the stocks, one day Ubi, The stocks will fall on our time as scum-lords, and will rise with you jerks as the new scum-lords.

Ubi: And this will all be mine?

EA: Everything.

Ubi: What about that bright, happy place over there?

EA: That's ethical business practices and creative talent, you must never go there, Ubi!

Electronics are really weird, nothing else really does this kind of stuff. If you buy a couch and decide not to buy the store's throw pillows and make your own or get one from a guy you know, the cops don't bust through the door to arrest you and no one tries to ban you from IKEA. IKEA has to sell BETTER pillows and compete with the general public.

We don't have to buy IKEA points in order to have a seamstress make bespoke pillows in an IKEA paid-sewing platform... We go to the pillow Nexus, or if we're REALLY slumming it: the Pillow Workshop, and then we download it from a third-party-semester and pray that it doesn't break the couch or even the entire house with it's questionable stitching!

In a non-public setting (public settings being multiplayer, basically) we should be able to modify things we own so long as it's not actually harming anybody or a threat to public safety (endangering company profits doesn't count!). They shouldn't be able to legally force you to sign a contract to use something you already bought, especially if the contract is just there to make it so you can't do what you want with the product you paid for and now own.

I know it's a bit of a grey area (so are copyright laws but we still have fair use) but as long as modders aren't STEALING anything, (EX: Downloading an expansion pack, and just re-uploading it or parts of it as a mod) it should be legal to do what you want with your OWN stuff. Just because you're electronic doesn't mean you can quash consumer agency!

Unpacking is hell too, especially for me since I need help to unpack and then realize oh I don't need this/don't like it anymore/don't want it.....*repacks it or just throws into garbage bag to then donate or outright throw out*

Why do we as human beings like having so much stuff? (or is that only my past self?)

I swear it's not until you move that you realize how much damn stuff you have...I threw away a bunch of stuff, but I still need to get rid of tons more. Trying to motivate myself to clean up and throw more stuff away in the coming weeks. Just trying to de-clutter my life.

I planned on holding a yard sale when we moved. We've lived here 14 years now...
