From what I heard a number of things had already been removed due to the reconstruction that was going on, including the 12 statues of the apostles and the sacred relics/holy objects (the crown of thorns believed to have been worn by Jesus) so those things are safe.DarrkestDrow wrote:The "arts and artifacts" can't be safe. The ones small enough to remove that weren't in the vicinity of the fire MAYBE, but the building itself is an architectural work of art. There are murals everywhere and statues and even the stained glass windows...all of it. It is sickening that it's all just burning...Karzarill wrote:I've heard both good and bad news about Notre Dame, good news is that there appear to be no lost lives and that the arts and artifacts are save. Bad news is Notre Dame might be lost within the next hour. I've been talking to people on various Discord servers and we've all been sharing news.
I think they may have it put out now though?
It sounds like a lot of artwork was spared/saved as well (I have no idea which ones though)
And while the spire-which was going to be reconstructed as it is-has collapsed, and the roof there is gone(the stone portion of the room remains but the wood is gone), but the iconic front towers are still standing and it seems like they're probably going to be safe. It seems they managed to get the fire under control before it got there.
There's been at least one injury-a firefighter-but no deaths amazingly.
We have had the news on and the fire is still going last I saw but I think they have it under control now.
