We've had 9 call outs at work today.

A month of coughing has turned into 2 weeks of this deep, chesty cough. I'm so tired of the bubbling in my lungs when I take deep breaths. Doctor says there's absolutely nothing I can do but take Mucinex style medicine because it's not an infection or actual illness (yet).

I have that problem too! Apparently, the infection I had in my sinuses irritated my bronchioles, and they just never got over it. Gave me a week's worth of a steroid inhaler.

Was part of your prescription "try not to cough?"

Yep! Mine isn't bad enough to warrant any type of medicine (inhaler, antibiotic, or otherwise) so I'm just stuck on OTC meds until it gets better... or worse. I may go back to the walk in clinic next week though because I'm flying to Paris on the 21 and I don't wanna be THAT person coughing on an airplane.

My whole family had something similar last winter. The worst was over in about a week when I lost my voice, but I kept coughing for at least a month. Psuedoephed and humidifiers helped a bit. I feel for you.

I'm hoping it goes away before my aforementioned flight. I'll be drugged up next week though because I'm about to run to the pharmacy and get a shit ton of cough medicine.

I get lingering coughs all the time, and I've never found any OTC medication that does any good at all. I just have to live with it each time. I've always been curious if an inhaler would help.

I've also heard of coughs after a cold being just muscle memory. Like these really no reason your body is coughing.

Speaking of which, Ive been coughing for two weeks still bringing stuff up. Really thinking I should check it out soon...

The things that work for me when I have a cough are..
1. Luden's cherry cough drops
2. Theraflu lemon/honey - the powdered kind you stir into hot water
3. Lemon, honey and whiskey (or bourbon) - 1 shot of whiskey, 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice

#3 works best, but not everyone is willing to drink alcohol

Yeah mine is bringing up mucus-y crap from my lungs but I haven't been sick at all in months, so there's legit no reason for this cough.

The only, and I mean only thing, that stops me from coughing, is Delsym. I don't know if they have it in countries outside the US, but I've seen it in Orange and Grape flavor and it comes in an orange box. The orange flavor is horrible, but the grape actually tastes pretty decent, for a cough syrup. It at least won't make you gag from a horrible taste. It's a cough suppressant, and it really does it's job, 12 hours at a time. I was amazed that it actually worked.
