My dog is recovering well from her emergency surgery. She's still a bit ouchie, which is to be expected after such an ordeal, but she's back to her silly, wiggly self and is eating and carrying on like she always does. Just at a slower speed. I'm finally starting to relax a bit now that everything seems to be okay and I think she is finally *officially* out of danger. WHEW.

My estranged husband's oldest brother died the other day. (This was not unexpected.) The middle brother and his wife have been cleaning out his house. (Think any episode of Hoarders.) They "kindly" brought me some of the food they thought I might use. I was about to try one of the frozen pizzas when I happened to check the expiration date: Nov 06 17. Given that groceries I bought yesterday have expiration dates into next year and 2020, I'm thinking I'm not about to eat this stuff.

Edit: Some of the sausage expired in 2012. A few years ago, the entire town lost power for several days. *shudder*

Nah, Everything they gave me except the drink mixes had pork. They're 7th Day Adventists and eat Kosher. They are quite likely going to use some of the stuff he had that wasn't pork.

Admittedly, the 2012 sausage I would not risk, not after the power outage. That'd actually make anything before then suspect.

I'll use it for a bit past expiration, but not nearly a year past. Especially not pork. Plus, given the state his house was in, I can't be sure the stuff has been frozen the whole time. I'm tossing anything that's frozen and just keeping the drink mixes.
