Re: Crowdsourced Backups
Dude that's a pretty genius idea. Once the restoration is done I'll be sure to download a backup (and try to keep downloading it on a regular basis) so that this kind of thing won't get the best of us again. :3

Re: Crowdsourced Backups
There's always going to be the possibility of temporary down time with any sort of electronic storage media but --- here's the thing with cloud drives --- the back-ups have back-ups. All of the sites which went down in that particular crash were restored within three days... and absolutely no data was lost. It just seems to me that we should have as many opportunities to back up the material as possible. If it takes an increase in the DP pricing or the rolling out of a back-up DP at a special price to maintain it, I would do so. It's worth it to me to ensure that the data never disappears again.
No offense to the players, but most of you have lives outside MS and some of you are just plain forgetful. People get complacent, stop doing the back-ups. If another catastrophic crash happens, the odds are pretty long that any users would have ALL the most recent data. It's a good last resort but it's not a good permanent solution.

Yup...this would just be one more.Tristan wrote:Note that we do have other backup methods in place. This is a last resort.
Also, there are various private crawlers out there that you can use which will look at JUST your keep and make copies of the images to your own hard drive. I plan on utilizing as many back-up opportunities as I can. I'm just sorry my wireless is too junky to help with the crowdsourcing.

If MagiStream is down, keep the old files. Since it's up, you can delete the old files.Darkfur wrote:I still need to know whether or not I should delete the 'old' log before downloading the new 'log'...I know my computer can handle at least the keep part..but still have not gotten an answer to this ? yet so I have try downloading the rest. :tard: lol
Re: Crowdsourced Backups
Dunno if this question has been asked, but how often are these logs updated? Are back-ups taken every day? Or what? Might be useful for those who want to keep up with the backups.

Re: Crowdsourced Backups
It is being backed up regularly if you look at the file it has a timestamp on it.

Thank-you everyone for all the beautiful gifts under the tree. *Love them!*
Re: Crowdsourced Backups
Update seems to be very sporadic. Today's files are the same as the ones I downloaded yesterday - all dated May 31st, timestamps all before 6:30am.
