Magma Runners are specialized wyverns that take up residence in large magma reserves beneath dormant (and sometimes even active) volcanoes. Because magma reserves can be massive, it's possible to see a runner surface where an old lava chute was. They resemble an aquatic creature, although their webs are much thicker to help them maneuver through the thick substance. The fins over their gills help to filter the magma through as they swim; they do have lungs used for oxygen, but it's rare to see one above ground. When first emerging from the magma, their specialized scales are bright red, like a burning metal, and as the air cools them off they become almost completely black. The exception to this is their sharp lower jaw and underbelly stripe, which seem to be made of obsidian and remain black no matter what. When needed, the tail unfolds to create a big fan. Runners stand up to six feet at the shoulder when standing. Despite their ferocious appearance (and love of deer meat) they are gentle creatures that can be easily befriended. You just have to find one first.
