Amoenus has six tentacles for catching small aquatic creatures. Forelimbs have rather thick, short, segmented fingers. Hindlimbs are remarkably strong and have long toes used for holding on to underwater objects. Claws are small, but very sharp. Eyes are large and usually yellow. The creature seems to rely on sense of sight.
Diet: Amoeni are omnivores. Their favourite food are fishes and small amphibians, though they occasionally feed on fallen fruits (and spit out their seeds - a rather funny sight to the observer).
Behaviour: During the wet season, Amoeni can be found in the Great Tagg. They spend days curled among underwater roots and sunken branches, waiting for the prey to come within their range. When they detect it, they spring forward using their powerful hindlimbs and stretch their tentacles in order to catch it. After the sunset they crawl out from the water and hide in small lairs, where they sleep. Before the dry season, Amoeni migrate up the Great Tagg and spend the rest of the year in the estuary.
They are shy and solitary creatures. After a longer period of observation they seem to tolerate the presence of humans rather well. Some Amoeni even show signs of curiosity, peeking from under the roots and looking at the magi for a few moments before retreating to their hideout.
Magic: Amoeni shed their keratinous "shells" once in a two years. Especially interesting are "shells" from their head appendages - they sharpen the sight of the person who touches them. At the moment it is unknown if other "shells" have any magical properties. They are hard to obtain because Amoeni usually bury them in the bottom of the river. Further research is required.
