In game story;

Talyn has returned from one of his journeys with promises of wonders, the likes of which have not been seen before. Right now he is in the lake where most of the students keep their water-bound creatures. Yes, in the lake.
He is treading water with some large purple flippers, petting a curious hippocampus while he waits for a suitable audience to gather around. Once he is satisfied, he begins speaking, his voice magically amplified over the grounds.
"Fellow magi! Are you tired of traipsing back to the keep whenever you have visited a creature, when you wish to visit another? Why bother - why can't they come to you? BEHOLD!" he shouts, pulling a silver object on a chain out of his shirt. "I have found a solution!"
He raises the object to his lips, and there is a poignant silence. With one piercing note, the waters of the lake begin to ripple, a flurry of activity taking place beneath the surface. Before you can see exactly what is happening, an Aboeth Frog pokes its head out of the water next to Talyn. He nods to it, before demonstrating by blowing the whistle again. The frog disappears, and a pearl wyrm takes its place. The crowd 'oohs' and 'aahs' appropriately as Talyn continues to demonstrate this new, incredibly useful item.
