High Hopes

Post by Sweet »

Rain silently fell, Abigail watched it, boredom seeping through her mind. She hopped down from her sitting place -on the window sill in her bed room- and got her pencil case from her school bag. She reached under her bed and got out her sketchbook. She flicked through the pages until she came across a clear, blank, page. She sketched a creature, tall and lanky. It looked like a deer but on it's hind legs, and it's forearms draping, long, dragging off the ground. Abigail was only 10, but her imagine was big. She was a clever girl, and loved art and reading. She heard a faint "Mrow," and realised her cat was looking for her. The house was quiet, and the cat, who's name was Barley, hopped on her lap, purring. Barley circled her lap and lay down, resting her head on her forepaws. "Barley," Abigail started, but was hushed by Barleys' soft snores. Abigail sighed, and put the sketchbook away, and curled up. A car was outside, and stopped, a while later Abigail and Barley were woken by her mother walking in the house. "Abigail?" She called. "Yeah?" Abigail replied, awoken from her sleep. "I'm home! Where are you, Kip?" Mom's nickname for Abigail was Kip, "In my room, Mom!" Abigail shouted back, running down the stairs.

Abigail walked out after the rain had passed, in her yellow raincoat. Barley padding beside her. Abigail heard something. She found it, across the road in the forest. A pair of eyes, looking straight at her. Barley hissed, and ran through the catflap. Abigail stayed, frozen to the ground. The eyes disappeared into the night. Abigail ran inside and jumped to her bed. What was staring at her? And why was it so.. Tall?
