Hilgon--A Dracnic Quest CHAPTER ONE

Post by Havelock »

CHAPTER ONE

Daniel looked up at the mountains. His team had just scouted the valley below and were setting up camp for the night. His Dragology Team was the best in the country of Hilgon. Right now, though, they were searching for the dragons' layer; as to make a pact with them. A peace keeper. And so far...they had been unsuccessful at attempting to talk to a dragon. There was only one person who could speak in the Dracnic Language fluently--and that was Alex Kemptar, the Dragologist. The only other person who could understand Dracnic was Steve Haviter. And he was just an expedition leader, and he couldn't speak Dracnic. But alas, we prevailed and continued forth.

"Lord Hilford!" called Steve. Steve sprinted toward's Daniel at a near frantic pace. Daniel's face took a look of concern as Alex ran up to him.

"What is it?" Daniel's deep voice replied. Mr. Haviter held a finger up to tell him to wait. Steve was breathing heavily and was trying to catch his breath.

"Found.......Dragon," Steve sucked in a deep breath and continued, "Willing to talk...."

"A dragon? Here?" Daniel's voice pipped in a question. Steve nodded.

"Follow me." Steve said and he ran off in the direction he came. Daniel nodded and jogged over to Charles Alvan, the dragon hunter.

"Stay here. Guard the camp." Charles nodded and picked up a spear.

"Consider it done." His rugged voice said. Daniel ran off after Steve. Since the camp was in valley, it was surrounded by hills, of which none of the expedition members could easily look up over. The hill proved much steeper then what was led on. When Daniel reached the top of the hill, he collapsed down onto all fours and tried catching his breath. Steve was waiting for him and tapped his shoulder. Daniel looked up and saw a monstrously beautiful creature.

"Dragon." Daniel whispered in awe. Steve nodded in response. Daniel stood to his feet after a moment. He could see Alex below, standing at the foot of the beast.

The dragon. A Desert Dragon, no doubt. Daniel thought. He could tell by the beautiful silver-golden scales and huge crest on top of the dragon's head. The wings of the dragon were a sand colored tan, folded behind the dragon in such a manner that suggested royalty. The dragon lay, talking to Alex. Steve and Daniel headed down to them.

"Vachnic dechi hildren dey geniy." Said the dragon as they approached.

"Ulytri re Daniel Hilford ged Steve Haviter." Said Alex. The dragon nodded and moved his head closer to the new human arrivals. The serpentine neck moved with grace. Definitely royalty. Thought Daniel. The dragon moved his head to the ground and got a better look at the two humans. After a moment, the dragon brought his head back up.

"Grewtry benshi trendra." Replied the dragon. Alex turned to Daniel and translated for them.

"The dragon wants to know why we are here." Alex said.

"Tell him we are here to create peace between the races of Hilgon." Daniel said. Alex nodded and turned to the dragon.

"Renwtr Hilgon, nutranic deselmi." Alex said. The dragon's throat rumbled, as if preparing to strike a fury of fireballs upon them. The three men backed away. The dragon looked away for a moment, looking to the darkening sky. A few stars could be seen peeking their way through the sky. The dragon looked back at the humans and replied, looking directly at Lord Hilford.

"Cretani frey speti nutranic," The dragon paused and bowed his head slightly at Lord Hilford and then continued speaking in the common tongue, "I will help you on your quest, Lord Hilford." The dragon's voice was deep, kind, and passionate.

Alex, Daniel, and Steve all looked astonished.

"You speak in Common?" Alex gasped. The dragon nodded, with an amused smile.

"All dragons are able to do so. We just keep it hidden. That is why it is called the Common, is it not?" The dragon said.

"What is your name?" asked Hilford.

"Drustaner. Drustaner of the Hilgon Desert." Responded Drustaner. Daniel's mouth dropped a little, as did Alex's and Steve's.

"You are royalty." Daniel breathed aloud. The dragon bobbed his head up and down, signaling a yes.

"Do you have a camp ground?" asked the dragon. Steve nodded a yes. The dragon clambered to his feet and stood waiting for directions.

"It's just over the hill." Alex responded pointing to the hill. The dragon nodded his compliance and strode off, the ground seeming to thunder under his enormous weight. Hilford watched the dragon go over the hill with Steve and Alex scrambling to tell Charles. Hilford stayed stationary and watched them all disappear. They had a dragon. A dragon. And one that willing to help them freely.

You've got me interested. I can't wait to see how this unfolds.
You are not a failure. You are not a mistake. You are not worthless. You are not unloved. You are not disposable.
You ARE full of purpose. You ARE priceless. You ARE indispensable. You ARE loved.
