As to whether you should get back to work... Well, as one of the readers I would love to read more.
But as a Writer myself, I understand the story will out itself and the characters will make themselves heard in Their time rather than ours. And if the characters are at odds with each other on the matter...
More than once a character in my head has up n gotten shy on me or bored with talking about themselves n wandered off on me. [chuckles]
So whenever they decide to put their story down on paper, as it were, will have to be soon enough for us, aye?

My suggestion would be to leave it and work on something else until the original characters get jealous and want to be heard again.
Though I warn you, this strategy doesn't always work... Okay well for Me it seldom works. lol
I used to have several manuscripts laying around in various states of completion and only one of them, a full novel, ever got truly completed. But then you're not me, and one assumes that will be a blessing and a boon to you as unlike Me, you may have the ability to finish something once in a while.
