I'm waiting for a few more comments before the next chapter, because I noticed that all the other keep stories have, like, a chapter every other page.

(IMPORTANT! This is from Kara’s point of view.)

I knocked on her door. “Leisha! Open up!” She didn’t, of course. I knocked again, harder. “LEISHA!” I banged on the door, and it swung open. I would have laughed at this point is the situation wasn’t this bad.

Leisha was in some sort of trouble, I knew that much. What could have happened to her? Her call was especially troubling in the fact that she didn’t mention the cause. Questions were racing through my head, nearing light speed. “Leisha? Are you here?”

“Yeah.”

I ran to her bedroom, the source of her voice. I found her laying on her bed, arms and hair sprawled out around her. I started to ask what was wrong, but then I saw. I couldn’t speak for a moment. My jaw literally dropped open. (Again, I’m laughing now, but then it wasn’t funny. Like, at all.) Eventually I regained the power of speech.

“Oh my God, you have wings.”

(Still in Kara’s perspective)

“Okay, keeping this in perspective. Hypothesis one: I’m dreaming.”

I was sprawled across Leisha’s bedroom floor, in a position not unsimilar to that of The Thinker. My hands were at my temples, and I was taking long, deep breaths.

“Solution: Ask Leisha. Leisha, am I dreaming?”

“What? Oh, no, unfortunately.”

“Okay then. Hypothesis two: I’m hallucinating.”

“Why do none of your hypotheses involve being in real life?”

“Shhh, I’m getting to that part.”

Silence.

“Okay, maybe you’re right. Maybe this has a logical explanation.”

“If it does, I’d sure like to hear it.”

“Okay. Here, I’ll ask you some questions. ‘Kay?”

“Okay.”

“Um. Ummm… Have you noticed anything besides the obvious?”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, like, have you changed in any other ways?”

“Um, I don’t think so. I don’t know.”

As she looked in my direction, however, I noticed half-inch long fangs protruding from her mouth. I decided not to mention it.

“Okay. Um. Where is Nainiyare?”

As I watched, her face grew a tortured expression. Her shoulders raised, and her head fell into her hands. She
stayed this way until I interrupted.

“Leisha?”

She hissed at me. “Don’t ask that. Please.”

“Okay. But, did you really just hiss at me?”

She looked surprised. “Did I?”

“Yeah.”

“Oh.”

We sat in silence for a while.

“The real question is, how are you going to go to school like this?”
