Master Post
Dundadadaaa! Greetings fellow magi, allies, creatures, and other peoples! After lots of procrastinating, I mean, working, I have started my first Magistream story! Huzzah!

Description
A mysterious disease has been infecting the non-magical populace. They've come to the Keep in hopes of a cure, but the magi here are at their wits' end. Their only hope is the mysterious Azareth flower, a legendary plant said to grow when every element of magic has combined. The masters of the Keep send Shivi Hyra, a senior magi, and a young knight on a quest to Alswyne Castle, where they believe the flowers are growing. Can Shivi reach the castle in time, and find the Azareth flowers? Tune in every so often to find out!

Chapters
To be linked sooner or later... hurr.

Helpful critiques are welcome! Also catching any grammar and/or spelling mistakes would be much appreciated!

Chapter 1

The Keep was a disaster. Magi were scurrying about everywhere, some with large glasses of glowing liquids and others buried within spell books. This sudden activity in the Keep caught Shivi Hyra off-guard, as she was just returning from a quest in Voltar and had not heard the news.

The senior student was used to slinking in and out of the Keep. So when Shivi entered the Keep with her companions, she was slightly surprised to see a younger student immediately rush up to her and grasp her wrist.

“You’re Shivi Hyra, yeah?” he asked.

Shivi glanced nervously around the room. Everyone had seemed to take notice of her, and she disliked it. Grimacing slightly, she answered, “Yes, I am. What is it?”

“Ar-Archmage Thane would like to see you in his office,” stuttered the younger student, and he quickly stepped to the side.

Shivi sighed and began to make her way towards Thane’s office. As she bullied her way through the hordes of magi, her fire kitsune, Kushanu, yelped at her heels.

“I know you’re tired, boy. Let’s hope this business is quick,” murmured Shivi. Her pale hand stroked Kushanu's head as they approached the office.

When the two entered, they were surprised to find not only Archmage Thane but a host of other high ranking faculty members. Thane sat upright at his desk, hands clasped together and eyes deep in thought. The others either sat in wooden chairs or paced around anxiously. Shivi has a sense the reason for her summoning wasn’t something upbeat.

“Miss Hyra,” Thane said wearily, “I’m glad you came. We’ll be needing your assistance.”

Shivi grinned slightly, a sense of pride stirring in her chest. Being selected by the Archmage to aid him in a task was quite the honor. “What do you need?” she asked.

Archmage Thane stood up and glance out of a nearby window. A few sparse snowflakes were fluttering down from the gray sky. “Recently, at the start of the season, a strange illness began to appear. We were first alerted to it after a family of farmers came to be treated for it.”

“The family’s condition was very severe, and none of the Keep’s healers knew how to cure the sickness, not even me,” piped Master Tankle, a graying woman who taught nature magic to senior students. Thane cleared his throat, and the elderly master sat down.

Thane continued, “The family only became worse as the days went by, and we soon began to receive more and more people with the same sickness. The Keep is now overrun with ailing people, and there’s still many more looking for a cure.”

“What exactly does this sickness do to a person? Have any magi fallen ill?” asked Shivi.

A spindly man, Master Sish, answered, “The people infected always come with a high fever, sore throat, difficulty breathing, and the strangest of all; a blue rash.”

“No magi have fallen ill yet,” added Master Tankle. Thane cleared his throat again.

“Were there any books with this disease in them?” Shivi asked.

“We looked, when the library wasn’t crowded with sick. The only book we found with any mention of a sickness like this is a personal journal from a former master,” replied Naomi, the Head Librarian. The woman walked over to Shivi and handed her a familiar brown book.

“I know this book. It used to belong to Master Archibald Alswyne, an old teacher here. He was very interested in the idea of magical combination…” Shivi’s voice trailed off as she thumbed through the pages.

“Yes, I remember Archibald. Friendly enough, but he was definitely… odd,” chirruped Master Tankle. Thane simply shot the Master a look this time.

“According to the journal Master Alswyne came across the sickness before. All of the remedies the Keep knew failed to cure the disease, but Alswyne had one remedy that did; the Azareth flower,” Thane said.

Shivi nodded. “Master Alswyne believed that the flower was a combination of all magic into one, and that one petal could cure any ailment.” The girl looked at the masters in curiosity. “Are you going to try to find the flowers to cure the sickness?”

“Not us, but you and a young knight,” replied Thane. The Archmage sat back down at his desk and began to write something. “You’ve been studying Alswyne’s theories, correct?”

“Yes,” Shivi answered.

“Then you know that he left the Keep to build a castle in the Alasre Mountains. That castle is still standing, and we think the Azareth flowers can be found there,” Thane said, and handed the writ to Shivi, “I know you’ve just returned from a quest already, but you’re the only one here who has studied Alswyne’s work indepthly. I believe that makes you the most suited for this mission.”

The young girl looked at the writ, and nodded. “I won’t let you down, sir.”

“You won’t, Shivi,” Thane assured the younger magi. He nodded towards Master Sish. “Master Sish will introduce you to your companion when you’re ready.”

I like this so far! I'm curious to see where you'll take it.

Just some critique--Watch out for overuse of adverbs. It leads to more telling rather than showing.
