Fanfiction: Utterly Alone (Warriors)

Post by tanglefire1000 »

This is the story of the Clans from many, many years ago, before the 'original' Clans came along. They were named after the elements, due to each Clan having a special affinity with its element - FireClan, WaterClan, EarthClan, AirClan, and, perhaps most surprisingly, LoveClan. This may prompt you to say that love is not an element. However, due to their incredible powers, I don't think you will wish to argue that point.

There was once a cat, who, if you looked at her, appeared perfectly normal. The only odd thing about her was her silver eyes, and her amazing life. Her name was Tanglefire, a warrior of LoveClan. This is her story, told through her eyes.
Be warned - this story is not for those who have little time. It is an incredibly long story - and, in fact, is still continuing today. Read on...

I was born on the 31st May. I remember that date especially, as the cats of my Clan would refer to it as the last day of spring. Then again, that all depends on your opinion. My family was a powerful one, one of the most magic-filled in our Clan. My mother, Hawknose, had the ability to vanish into thin air - a relatively common power, but still incredibly useful and dangerous when used correctly. My father, Eagletail, a shapeshifter. As you may imagine, there were no other shapeshifters at the time. My brother and sister, Spottedkit and Leopardkit, were still attempting to find their powers. My mother's mother was the leader of the Clan, Dawnstar. She automatically had brilliant powers that not many, save former leaders, could match. She could actually control emotions although, due to her kind personality, she only used it when things were getting totally out of control.

My first memories are of my mother's pale ginger tabby face looking down at me.
"Oh Eagletail," she whispered, sounding exhausted, "isn't she beautiful?"
My father - a fiery orange tom, much like myself - gazed at me, pride warming his gaze.
"She's utterly perfect, Hawknose," he purred, and gently licked the top of her head.
"I wanna see! I wanna see!" My white-and-brown-spotted sister, Spottedkit, said excitedly, peering over the top of Hawknose.
"Spottedkit, you'll end up squahing her," said Eagletail with a small sigh. "Go and play with Leopardkit, please?"
Leopardkit - a golden tom with black spots - said "But I haven't seen her yet!"
"What are we going to name her?" asked Hawknose. My father opened his jaws to reply, but then Leopardkit jumped in: "Tanglekit!"
"Tanglekit?"
"Yeah, because her tail's all knotted up, and Knottedkit sounds silly," he said, blinking cheerfully.
"Tanglekit. Yes, I like it," murmured my father. "Hawknose?"
"It's perfect," she said warmly. "Welcome to the world, Tanglekit."
I pressed myself into the warm fur of my mother's belly, and sighed happily as I fell asleep.

I opened my eyes the next morning. The first thing I saw was a face peering down at me.
"Morning Tanglekit!" said the cat excitedly. I blinked in shock, only not panicking because I recognised Spottedkit's scent.
"Hi Spottedkit," I whispered. My voice sounded strange and slightly hoarse, but she didn't notice.
"You get used to the light soon," she promised.
"Spottedkit, remember what Hawknose said," said another voice, as Leopardkit's head poked over her shoulder. "You have to giver her time to get used to everything."
"I'm fine," I said, already slightly annoyed. "It's not like I'm stupid or anything!"
I pushed myself up, with Spottedkit constantly helping me. I staggered slightly, then got my bearings. The nursery was huge. It was filled with queens taking care of kits, and there were at least ten of them.
"LoveClan is the biggest Clan," purred Leopardkit proudly. "We have a huge territory as well, and the other Clans rarely attack us, even if they were going to be hostile."
"Other Clans?" I asked in surprise. Could there be other cats, not like us then?

"Yeah - FireClan, EarthClan, WaterClan, and AirClan," said Leopardkit. "We work together mostly, but arguments happen." He pulled a face that looked kind of like this: :wat:
"Oh, okay." I didn't really care at the time. I was too occupied with getting out.
"Where are you going then?" came the most familiar voice of all. My mother gave me a warm look from her bright yellow eyes.
"I'm going outside," I said excitedly. "Can I? Please?"
"Of course you can," she smiled, "but don't get into trouble, and stay with Spottedkit!"
"I will," Spottedkit and I said at exactly the same time.
"This way!" she said, heading towards a gap in the bracken. I headed after her, making sure I didn't fall over anything. I went through the gap - and into another world.

The clearing was huge - about six times the size of the nursery. Cats were everywhere, eating prey, grooming or just talking. A group of younger cats were playfighting near a tree stump, making loud squeaks of excitement and laughing. One of them, a light grey tabby, spotted us and came over.
"Hi Spottedkit," he mewed. "Who's this?"
"My sister, Tanglekit. Tanglekit, this is Streampaw." Her eyes sparkled with excitement.
"Tanglekit, I formally welcome you to the Glade," he purred. "You'll get the hang of the place easily. Every cat does."
"Show her your power," Spottedkit said excitedly. Curious, I gazed as he focused on the ground. He closed his pale blue eyes for a moment, then shot them open again. The patch of ground he had been staring at suddenly exploded.
"Woah!" I gasped. "You make things blow up?"

He gave me an embarrased look. "That wasn't meant to happen," he admitted. "I was trying to make the grass float in the air."
"It kind of worked," pointed out Spottedkit, flicking her tail at the clump, which was still hovering in the air.
"I really need to work on it," he sighed, "or I'll never become a warrior!"
"Is that the final test?" I asked.
"Yeah. Every cat has their own power, although there are a couple of cats who have the same power. Have you found yours yet?" he asked of Spottedkit.
"No, not yet," she sighed, "but I think Leopardkit might be becoming a hypnotist!"
"That's awesome!" said Streampaw happily. "Our last one, Oakleaf, died a few moons ago. Remember her? The elder who got attacked by a badger."
"Oh yes," sighed Spottedkit sadly. "I loved her stories!"

"Hey Streampaw! Time for some training!" called a black tom from the other side of the Glade.
"Coming Wildfire!" he yelled. "See you!"
"He was nice," I said, watching as he ran off.
"Mmhmm. Come on, I want you to meet someone else." She ran off, and I did my best to keep up with her.
"Flowerpaw!" she called to a light brown tabby with lighter paws. She looked up, and her face broke into a smile.
"Hi, Spottedkit. You must be Tanglekit," she went on, turning to me. "It's nice to meet you. How are you coping?"
"I'm fine," I purred. "I've already met Streampaw, and now I've met you!"
She purred softly. "Streampaw is one of my best friends," she said warmly. "He's great with kits."
"Show her your power," said Spottedkit, flicking her tail. Flowerpaw nodded, and glanced at a tree. It shook for a moment, then stopped. A bird flew out of it, letting out a loud alarm call.
"You make things shake?" I asked.
"No, I was trying to call the bird," she sighed. "Not many apprentices have full control over their powers yet. Once you do, you can become a warrior - unless you haven't passed your hunting or fighting tests."
She stood up. "I have to go," she mewed. "Hunting patrol. It was good meeting you, Tanglekit."
She headed off, her tail swinging behind her.
