1: Are you vegetarian or vegan?
Vegan for the most part. I can't always afford vegan soaps/shampoos/makeup, but I do only buy products that haven't been tested on animals.

2: If yes WHY did you decide to become vegetarian/vegan.
I don't really know, a few years ago I just thought that "Well the thought of eating a dog disgusts me, so whats really the difference of a dog and a pig?" Different views then followed.

3:If you are, how long have you been vegetarian/vegan.
Vegetarian for a little over 2 years. Vegan for 6 months.

4: Would you ever consider going back to eating meat?
Not really, I've never felt tempted to by meat but sometimes I do miss milk chocolate.
Would you ever consider becoming vegan/vegetarian (if a meat eater)

5: Do you feel healthier/less healthy since going vegetarian/vegan?
I didn't notice anything after I became a vegetarian, but since I've became a vegan I haven't gotten sick since. Nothing beyond a stuffy nose, which is weird since I used to be sick all of the time, I'm still not convinced that this is anything more than a coincidence.

6: How are your energy levels/iron levels etc (i guess both could answer this)
I've always been a low energy person, nothings changed since I cut out meat milk and eggs.

7: Do you take a vitamin suppliment. (i guess both could answer that too)
Meh, not really.

To me being a vegan/vegetarian is just a kinder thing to do, but it certainly doesn't make you a bad person if your not.

For example, I spent my allowance this month on video games instead of say donating it to the red cross. Does this make me a bad person? I don't think so. Would it have been kinder to help others in need? Definitely yes.

On meat, fish, poultry, leather and fur issues I not only disagree with the standards of how many animals are being kept, but I also think that if I can avoid the death of a living thing by not supporting the industry, then I should. I choose not eat milk and eggs because, it raises revenue for mostly the same companies that produce the meat and poultry and once again for the poor conditions of how many of the animals are being kept. Not to mention, (watch my argument lose all it's significance in this one sentence ) that the eggs we eat are their unfertilized embryos, so that's like eating the byproduct of their period, which is somewhat icky to me. (I'm so mature :yarly: )

On a separate note how do you guys feel about peta? I don't hate them myself, but I'm not a huge fan. On core issues I'd say I stand with them but some of their campaigns are just :headdesk:

1: Are you vegetarian or vegan?
Yes, a vegetarian.

2: If yes WHY did you decide to become vegetarian/vegan.
Because my mother and father where both vegetarian when I was born.

3:If you are, how long have you been vegetarian/vegan.
Well, really for only 3-4 years....but that's only because I didn't know about geliten. I prettend that geliten doesn't count so I tell myself 13 years. (almost 14!)

4: Would you ever consider going back to eating meat (if vegan/vegetarian)
Would you ever consider becoming vegan/vegetarian (if a meat eater)
*shudders* never! I guess maybe only if it was the only way I could live but still...

5: Do you feel healthier/less healthy since going vegetarian/vegan (if vegetarian/vegan)
No idea, I have been vegetarian all my life so I wouldn't know...

6: How are your energy levels/iron levels etc (i guess both could answer this)
I problems with my iron being to low...but I think I'm energetic.

7: Do you take a vitamin suppliment. (i guess both could answer that too)
I only take vitamin D when I'm sick....so not really.

3:If you are, how long have you been vegetarian/vegan. N/A

4: Would you ever consider going back to eating meat (if vegan/vegetarian)
Would you ever consider becoming vegan/vegetarian (if a meat eater) Never! Unless it was for a really really good cause and it was temporary

5: Do you feel healthier/less healthy since going vegetarian/vegan (if vegetarian/vegan)

6: How are your energy levels/iron levels etc (i guess both could answer this) Pretty average for someone my age

7: Do you take a vitamin supplement. (i guess both could answer that too) No

I get why people become vegans (health, animal rights, etc) but .. meat is so darn yummy ..

This not so. Cows that are used for milk are not the cows that are used for meat. When the milk in milk cows dries up they are usually sold off to be killed and sold as animal food. Laying hens are not the same hens that are used for meat. They simply aren't any good. The people who raise cattle and chickens are not the same as those who raise laying hens and milk cows. Though I certainly agree that the conditions leave a lot to be desired either way.

Hey ya'll

I am vegitarian. I have been since I was seven. I've grown up on a small farm (mainly horses and egg-only chickens/turkeys) My father is a Vet. I became a vegitarian when I was 7 because I loved animals so much, and cared about them (I have to admit) almost as much as a sibling. I'd sob when our neighbor slaghtered their cattle that I'd gotten to hand-feed. Maybe I'm just sentimental. =P

I find I am relitavely heathly, though meat has plenty of protien and stuff (except for greasy hamburgers etc)

I do actually have low Iron and take iron vitamins (no biggie though)

From what i saw on the last post, I do actually drink milk and other dairy products, and eggs, mainly because i love them (like cheese <3) so much. But, from what I've learned on my farm, Milk indirectly causes death of cattle. To produce milk, a cow needs to give birth to a calf, which is 50/50 chance a male, which is slaughtered for food. And even supposed "vegan" foods like Jell-o is made with Geliatin, which is made from some slaughtered animals materials. So in a way, you're almost always going to cause an animal's death directly or indirectly from almost any food you eat, but I still believe people should take better care of their meat animals. Market cattle and chickens are born to have a lot of muscle and given hormones, to the point where meat chickens can't even walk or stand up by the time they're 2 months old.

Has anyone else here experienced misunderstandings with people who don't know the difference between vegetarian and vegan?

Though I have been correcting my aunt for the past 5 and a half years when she tells people I'm vegan, she still says that. So when she was chatting with some relatives about an upcoming family get-together, she mentioned that I was vegan. So it turned out that those relatives had gone through a lot trying to make vegan food, only to find that I ate the cheese on the table anyway. They told me my aunt had said I was vegan, and I told them that i'm a vegetarian. So they turned to my aunt and said "she's vegetarian, not vegan," and my aunt said "there's a difference?"
I find that pretty funny, and odd that my aunt didn't get it, despite knowing me really well.

I haven't had that problem, but I have had people try to serve me fish cause it "doesn't count as meat" or even chicken cause it's not "real" (red) meat. :srsly:
Basically, I count it as meat if you have to kill the animal to get it.

I get that, too. My mom constantly just assumes that i'm eating meat again, even though I have been a vegetarian for over 5 years. She'll give me chicken, and I won't eat it, and she'll say "but it's just chicken."
During my last visit, she gave me a choice of chicken or seafood, and didn't get that I couldn't bring myself to eat either. Though I do eat the occasional fish, it's only if i'm seriously about to pass out from a lack of meat protein, and I don't eat other seafood.
I can at least understand why some people don't count fish as meat, but chicken? Really?

So, hey. Forgive me if this question has been asked, but;

Would you eat meat if you'd raised and either killed yourself or be absolutely certain the animal had been humanely killed by others?

Personally, I think I'd get too attached, but ... I'd certainly be open to the idea if I knew for certain that the animal had been raised as humanely as possible.

If I was really hungry and there was really no other option, yeah. Personally, I think that any vegetarian who said they wouldn't eat an animal, even if they were starving, is lying. I mean, how would you know you wouldn't? Have you ever starved before?
But yeah, I agree, I would eat meat under those circumstances, but I would have to be really hungry and I would have to add a ton of sauce or something to it so that I wouldn't taste the meat at all, otherwise I would probably get sick.
