I have just had my Industrial piercing done about a week ago the pain has gone, the only problem I have is I work in a cafe and I have to wear a blue plaster on it so that the balls don't fall into customer food but its painful to take off.

It was actually really painful to have done the pain seemed worse than I had expected might be because I had been dreading it to be fair I wanted to have it in my sleeping ear but realized that it would be super painful to lay on I am looking forward to taking it out and changing it for a new design too.

Do you have a tattoo/piercing?: I actually have both. I have a tattoo of the reaper from the show Sons of Anarchy that I got right after the end of the first season, and I've had it ever since. I was really dedicated to the show, and it was something that took my mind off of things that stressed me out. I do plan on getting more, one of which is going to be a memorial tattoo for my grandmother that passed away two years ago.

I am also pierced - two in each ear and one in my tongue. First ear piercings were done when I was about six months old by my mother, so I don't really remember how much they hurt........if they hurt at all. My second ear piercings were done in the summer between my last year of elementary school and my first year of middle school. They didn't hurt too bad; I think it was more just the sound of the piercing gun that startled me more than anything. My tongue piercing was done about five or six years ago, and that one didn't hurt at all. Didn't even flinch when it went through.

If not, Are you against them in any way? I'm not against them, but I think, like I read in an earlier post, I think on page one, that they should be nice and tasteful, not disfiguring. I love piercings of all kinds....except gauges. In or out, I just find them disgusting, and just imagining what it looks like when the gauge is removed makes me cringe. But, I'm still not against them.

Do you think that people who have them should immediately be looked down upon because of it? Absolutely not. It's their body, their money, and they should be allowed to do as they wish with their bodies. If someone wants to cover themselves from head to toe in tattoos and gauge their ears out to the size of dinner plates, well, that's their decision. It's not tasteful and certainly makes me cringe, but that's their decision and their freedom of expression.

Why do you think people should/should not have them? I think that they should be allowed to have them, because that is their freedom of choice and expression.

In the work force, should a tattoo or a piercing be the deciding factor in whether or not they get a job? I honestly don't think it should. Just because someone has a tattoo or piercing shouldn't determine whether they're hired or not, because they don't determine whether or not a person can or can't do their job.

Do you have a tattoo/piercing?
I have one tattoo on my left shoulder, not coloured and not very big!

If not, Are you against them in any way?
I'm pro-tattoo, I think they look good and are a nice way to express stuff.

Do you think that people who have them should immediately be looked down upon because of it?
No, I think freedom of choice is important so long as it doesn't directly negatively impact others/is harmful.

Why do you think people should/should not have them?
I think people should be fine to choose and not be judged harshly for it. Everyone has different tastes after all, we don't like the same art or books or anything, but don't tend to punish people for it.

In the work force, should a tattoo or a piercing be the deciding factor in whether or not they get a job?
It depends on the job and the culture i.e. Japanese culture sees tattoos as a gang symbol so it's not going to get you a job, and if you have scary tattoos all over your face it might scare away customers etc, but generally no.

Do you have a tattoo/piercing?
No, I used to have my ears pierced, but forgot to put earrings in for so long they closed up.

If not, Are you against them in any way?
Not at all. I think they're really awesome and often beautiful pieces of art!

Do you think that people who have them should immediately be looked down upon because of it?
No, that would be ridiculous. It's a piece of art on your skin. (The exception would be if someone got something based in prejudicial/harmful ideology tattooed on themselves.)

Why do you think people should/should not have them?
People should be allowed to choose what they do with their body and it's no one else's business (again the exception being the above).

In the work force, should a tattoo or a piercing be the deciding factor in whether or not they get a job?
I personally don't think so, but like @tine5 said, certain cultures have a different understanding of tattoos and they're also used differently in different cultures.

Do you have a tattoo/piercing?:
Yes to both. Piercing-wise I don't offer much but double ear-piercings. But tattoo-was, I have four total.

Do you think that people who have them should immediately be looked down upon because of it?
Absolutely not. I believe that any tattoo or piercing demonstrates a crucial aspect of the individual's story and personality and should, therefore, be honored and respected despite your own feelings.

Why do you think people should/should not have them?
I don't believe that any person needs to have a tattoo or piercing in order to make them a complete individual. However, and I will use myself as an example here, tattoos (or piercings) can be used to aid in mental health. During the course of my education I became very depressed and insecure about my own abilities. Once I graduated and obtained my license, I rewarded myself with a very special tattoo that serves to remind me that I am smarter than I think and better than I know.

In the work force, should a tattoo or a piercing be the deciding factor in whether or not they get a job?
I believe not. I can understand and respect the opposing view, but I believe that one's abilities and excellence in regards to the proposed field should, ultimately, be the deciding factor.

I would venture to offer some advice to those who have not yet gotten a tattoo or piercing: do not rush! Yes, tattoos can, oftentimes, be covered or removed as can piercings, but something like this should take much thought and dedication. What you want your future to be should be considered. For example, if you have aspirations to travel to various cultures, you must consider the placement and design of any tattoo or piercing as many cultures disapprove greatly towards these body alterations. In the end, however, it is your temple, so decorate it as you wish <3

Do you have a tattoo/piercing?: I have gauges, they are size 2 and will stay that way lol, no tattoo
If not, Are you against them in any way? Absolutely not, but there should be a limit sometimes
Do you think that people who have them should immediately be looked down upon because of it? No, I think with the way this world is going and how they are supporting equality and rights there should not be a wrong doing to it. People really need to stop judging and accept the facts. Old saying don't judge a book by its cover.
Why do you think people should/should not have them? I think its fine as long as there is a limit, tattoos are normally ok, in moderate and well thought out places. They should thoroughly think about their decision before going and not give into peer pressure. Same with piercings I believe I took 2 months before I made my decision to get gauges and looked up the pros and cons about them and thought about it. Now I love them its like nothing changed.
In the work force, should a tattoo or a piercing be the deciding factor in whether or not they get a job? Yes and no? I do understand why some company's wouldn't appreciate it, but I suppose no its just the same as judging someone by their looks.

Do you have a tattoo/piercing?: No tattoos! I have two ear piercings but I'd like to get a couple more as well one on my nose
If not, Are you against them in any way? No! It's just a way for people to express themselves how they want to! Many different cultural practices often involve getting tattoos or piercings and even if its not cultural, they could be symbolic to whoever gets them. It's just a different form of art or a way for people to show their creativity and style
Do you think that people who have them should immediately be looked down upon because of it? Um no? I know there are many jobs and stuff that may not hire or require people to cover their bodies if they have tattoos or piercing but I don't see how having art on your body discredits your ability to perform your job.
Why do you think people should/should not have them? I don't think anyone should or should not have them. It's totally up to the person. Some like to have tattoos or piercings for fun and to others it may be something meaningful. Others prefer not to mark up their bodies or don't do so for religious reasons.
In the work force, should a tattoo or a piercing be the deciding factor in whether or not they get a job? NO NO NO! This is super unfair to the person and should be seen as a form of discrimination. I know some won't be hired because customers may feel uncomfortable and that might be bad for business but they are discriminating too and it's not ok. Someone shouldn't be denied their job because of marks on their body.

Do you have a tattoo/piercing?: No piercings, still debating if I want to get any (I know once I get one I'll get 11 haha). I have two tattoos and plans in the works for several more
If not, Are you against them in any way? I'm against getting ones that might overly effect your life without careful thought. There are lots of stories about people getting Neo-Nazi tattoos (which, I'm against the whole ideology in general, yuck) when they're young, only to become better people later and struggle to disconnect from their previous negative self due to having it permanently on their body.
To a lesser extent, I'm also against teenagers getting face, neck, or hand tattoos. They shouldn't be looked down on, but unfortunately stigmas exist that can keep you out of a lot of jobs if you have these. My artist wouldn't do these, especially if the person seemed spacey or unrealistic. It's better not to limit your options before you're certain of the career path you want.

Do you think that people who have them should immediately be looked down upon because of it? Definitely not, barring the tattoos being something offensive.

Why do you think people should/should not have them? In terms of tattoos, I think people who want them should get them, but I think they should be thought through, especially for the first one or two, and that these ones should have meaning. This way if you later realize you're not really about tattoos, at least the one you have will still matter to you and not just be a picture you hate. Don't get one just because your friends all are if you aren't certain. Once you have a couple and know they're for you I don't see any harm in going a bit crazy. Just always research your artist (I have a friend with a few impulse tattoos that turned out bad despite being simple because the studio she went to just didn't care) and always keep your finances in mind. You don't want to be cheap on a tattoo, and you also want to make rent, so if you can't afford the quality you want just now without going broke, hold off and save for a bit.

Piercings: Once again, go crazy, but keep jobs you want in mind, and also make sure you look into the risks of each. Ears and nose tend to be pretty safe, but some can cause major damage if done wrong.

In the work force, should a tattoo or a piercing be the deciding factor in whether or not they get a job?
It shouldn't be (again, baring offensive or lewd ones), but it is. So keep it in mind. I know a lot of people have the sentiment of "If they won't accept me for who I am, I don't want to work there anyways," but this attitude doesn't pay the bills, and isn't always that satisfying if you have to give up a dream. You might really want that music note on your neck (I've definitely had some envy over people with pretty neck/behind the ear tattoos), but it probably isn't worth giving up a dream of working as a doctor or lawyer (you should be able to have both, but life is often unfair). Luckily more and more places are becoming accepting, and in the meantime, there are plenty of easily hidden areas you can get one.

Do you have a tattoo/piercing?:I got my ears pierced 7 months ago.
Do you think that people who have them should immediately be looked down upon because of it? Not at all. Piercings and tattoos are just another way of expression, just like other aspects of fashion such as clothing. There are some tattoos which I do look down upon, like swastikas, but that goes for clothing as well - such as a Nazi armband perhaps.
Why do you think people should/should not have them? I believe that people should be able to do whatever they want to their bodies, as it's their body. I may disagree with what they're doing(rarely though)but that does not mean it's wrong or should it stop them.
In the work force, should a tattoo or a piercing be the deciding factor in whether or not they get a job? Personally, I don't think so. A tattoo or a piercing should be seen like clothes, just a small factor in the decision making process of hiring somebody. Unfortunately, that's not how it is. The exception for this is, again, wildly offensive imagery/symbols like swastikas, confederate flags, or similar things.

Do you have a tattoo/piercing?:
No.

If not, Are you against them in any way?
No. Fashion outside the norm is attractive to me. I tightlace to an "excessive" amount, for example. I would really like some tattoos, but the sound of a tattoo gun triggers my misophonia HARD.

Do you think that people who have them should immediately be looked down upon because of it?
No. I like to see body modifications. They are a pure, straight-to-the-point way of expression. It lets us make our standard run-of-the-mill bodies into a work or art, something truly our own. It can also let us more easily spot people of similar tastes or interests, regarding tattoo content. Or people who are simply accepting of body modification. Tattoo parlors and Ren Faires are probably the only place I feel "welcome" open-wearing a corset (over appropriate dress), because of this acceptance.

Why do you think people should/should not have them?
It's their body, let them do as they wish. Sadly, the world isn't very accepting of deviations in physical appearance. This goes right down to minor things, such as a gain of 20 lbs, or a day without makeup. I lost 20 lbs, instantly the whole world was nicer, even my relatives. I go a day without makeup, oh must be sick. It's...blech.

In the work force, should a tattoo or a piercing be the deciding factor in whether or not they get a job?
Piercings shouldn't really factor in. Tattoo content only directly in opposition to the position being hired for, or offensive in content. Like wearing a Coca Cola tattoo to a Pepsi interview (not this simple, but hopefully you get my meaning). Pornographic or political content also a no-no in hiring situations (unless under the clothes).
