Do you have a picture?

My friend and I entered a craft fair for the first time in almost a year. I did better than I did at the same fair last year, but only because that friend's mom bought a lot of stuff from me. My friend, who actually did great at the same fair last year, didn't even make up her half of the cost of the table this time, and all she sold was matchboxes. We sold so many matchboxes (which were literally just matchboxes that we got and decorated). I don't understand how that many people wanted them. You'd think there was a phone app for lighting candles and stuff. Why do people want boxes of matches?
The funny part is that the matchboxes were my friend's idea, and I scoffed at it at first and did it anyway, and yet those are the items that have saved our asses many times.

This kind of crosses over with the pet thread, but it's of a crafty nature, so here it goes. My aunt and uncle's 16 year old cat, Patches, just died. She was the antisocial sort who hid when anyone that were not them came into their home so I have no pictures of her of my own. I want to do a memorial cross stitch for them of her (I am doing one for my dog that I lost almost 2 years ago and it's made me feel tons better to have something more tangible and... special than photographs to remember him by).

My question is: how soon is too soon to ask for their favorite photograph? She just passed on the 14th so I likely won't ask before the new year buuut any thoughts?

I been working on a project and am almost done with another horse plush for my friend (just need his eyes). And my next project is going to be making a t-shirt pillow for my mom for Christmas. It's a awesome thing my aunt had learned. You take a graphic t-shirt and cut the image out then you get a pillow, some material and boom, you get a T-shirt pillow case.

I plan to do it for one of her favorite singers and hopefully it will be much easier to manage with the sewing machine. It's quite difficult to handle, but I did better somewhat. Most of my lines stayed in the right spot...

So small victory dance for that.
The Wishlist in my profile is outdated (I can't quite figure out how to edit it now, so many of the creatures there have already been obtained).

Gift ideas: Really am looking for a Varja Crystalwing for future breeding of pygmies and Gemdragons.

I do a variety of hobbies/projects. I'm a writer by nature and have taken up artistry. I also just make it a personal hobby to help people out. At the domestic violence shelter I currently live at, I've sort of become the unofficial case advocate/worksource consultant. You get to learn amazing things about people.

My primary project is something called Szurane. What started off as doodling and dreamy ideas in middle school evolved into a large interactive roleplay project by highschool and ran for about ten years as a setting. Over time it developed into a game project and hit several stalls--the worst and most heartbreaking being my husband purposefully destroying my data right before the civilization five lead designer took a peek at it. That's not going to stop me though, and it WILL be done.

I have a lot of hobbies, but the one one I am most faithful to is genealogy. My tree currently has over six thousand names in it and grows larger every week. I love all the branches and connections, not just to those who share bloodlines with me, but to all the world. And every once in a very great while I trip over an old family picture that I didn't have and it is precious.

I've currently been working on adding my step-father's family to my tree. He has a stack of papers on genealogy and I've been going through them and adding them in. Once all the papers are done, I'll go back and look for confirmation in census records and things. I'm hoping I'll a lot of information and pictures. His whole family has a great interest in genealogy, which is why he has so many papers. Things collected through the years and sent to everyone ini the family for posterity.

That's beautiful, Mightyoak. :t-:)

I actually have a question. I'm an amateur knitter, and I looove these gloves --

I can't afford to buy them, and I have the skills to make it myself, I think, but I don't know how to to his little horns, the ones ringing the wrist. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? They don't have to be exact, just anything that might look like Toothless would make me happy :3

When I was little, my Mother used to go to the library and work on her family genealogy and my Father would make fun of her for spending so much time for so little profit. Then when I was in college, he did an about face and dove head-first into it. He not only traced the direct ancestors, but their siblings and children as well for both sides of my family (where he could). He was always double-checking facts and records trying to make sure everything he had was accurate. I can't remember how far back he was able to get; I know for sure he traced back before the American Civil War...might have gotten to the Revolutionary War or farther back. He never could confirm where his family came from though...they had been in the Southern US for so long, there was no indication where they came from before that. My mother's family we know came from County Ayr, Scotland.

That is very interesting! My family is french. I myself was born and raised there and I started my tree there working with old family pictures. My mother is american, but her side of the family is only newly american. Her father is first generation and her mother is second generation americain. As a result I've done very little research in the States.
My stepfather, though, is "all americain". His family has been here since the land was just colonies. His direct paternal line can be traced straight back to germany and one of the wives's lines back to england. That's just what people have already found. What he hopes I can find for him is a direct male ancestor who fought in the Revolution. If I can find the connection (there is an officer with the same surname, but uncertain whether it is the right one, or a sibling, or cousin) this would entitle him to be a member of the Order of Cincinatus (spelling on that? No clue) Doesn't do anything for you, but it's a fancy title and who doesn't love those?? :t-lol:

I've done a little bit of work tracing my dad's family history. I was able to get back all the way into the 1580's but after that it there are no records that I have been able to find so far. My dad's family all came from France (originally the last name was du Trieux, then over the years it got changed to Truax). It's been neat to see some of the old pictures and all that. I learned that his family first came to the States when New York was known as New Amsterdam way back in 1624. I've also found out that with very few exceptions, all those with the surname Truax, Truex, Trueax, Truaxe and other variants are descended from Philippe du Trieux. So if you have any of those names in your family tree, we are cousins in one way or another somewhere along the line!! One of these days, I'll do some more work on Mom's side of the family!

No du Trieux in my tree anywhere (just ran the search). The Trieux is aparently a river and that is where the surname comes from. People who come from near the river or the near-by woods. Very interesting!
