I'd say 3 ounces should make you a good deal of yarn. Good to practice with if you can find some cheap stuff, though
Practice makes perfect with spinning.
Speaking of which... I still need to crochet that new octopus <_<

Re: Crafting and Hobbies
Newest little creations-
http://craftybird.deviantart.com/art/Or ... -271105200
Tried something new with this one. It's made using sugar 'n cream 'stripes' yarn. It's a yarn that is variated- but in long stripes. I used the yarn to create a unique pattern in this little guy. He has an 'orange cap', a pink butt and 2 pink tentacles, 2 orange tentacles and 4 white.
Super cute- so I'm going to try and do this kind of thing more often
And another little octopus-

Made of a really pretty shade of sugar 'n cream I found at a craft store I usually don't stop at :3

Re: Crafting and Hobbies
I like to make things out or recycled objects when I can. My last item was a shoelace and soda can tab choker, now I'm collecting tabs and metal rings to make chain mail ^^
I've also made duct tape corsets and shirts, ABS plastic plate armour, made hammered copper rings with engraved symbols, collect rocks and feathers for random things, and will dabble with making up recipes in the kitchen. So far my chicken noodle and chicken rice soups have been failproof, no matter how I changed the spices and vegetables.

Re: Crafting and Hobbies
Took a walk through our local craft fair today (I didn't get signed up in time or I would've set up there) and I was fairly disgusted at the amount of NON-crafts there.
Probably 75% of vendors were bought jewelry, purses, clothing. About 10% were candle retailers, big companies like Scentsy, that were set up trying to sell more. And maybe that remaining 15% were actually homemade goods like candies, salsas, soup mixes, seasoning mixes, etc... along with a few crochet/knitting type vendors tossed in.
Overall a huge disappointment and it left me fairly disgusted. I wish there were more rules for these things like they HAVE to be hand-made.

Re: Crafting and Hobbies
Actually, that is a major problem with crafting sales these days. 60% of the time they're not really crafts- just companies using a person to look more 'home made' even though they're not. Their prices are cheaper so people go to their stand a lot more and take a lot of the business that would otherwise be spread out more.
/sigh.
/sigh.
Spoiler
A lot of the craft shows I go to are smaller- and while yes that means there's not as many people because it's a regional thing, there's much more diversity in the vendors. I'm usually the ONLY person selling stuffed animals, or if there's another they specialize only in one type (usually simplistic amigurumi) while I have both amigurumi and sewn.
I've also started selling original patterns for $3. You wouldn't think these are very popular, but I've found if someone shows interest in them and I explain what needs to be known, they realize that yes, they CAN make it.
It's kind of funny how many crafters go to craft shows, isn't it? Going for both inspiration and to see other crafter's finished projects and maybe get some hand made gifts for people. There's nothing better than something made entirely by hand- it just has a different feel to it than manufactured products, and it's always higher quality.
Most of the problem is, the craft shows tend to be getting more and more 'expensive' for their fees as the hand crafted craze is picking up momentum. Companies are starting to see 'oh, there's profit in this!" and they stick their fingers into it too, and pretend they're not manufactured. That's why I've started to put 'Hand-sewn', or 'hand-crocheted' signs at my tables- people like to see that all the things I make are completely hand-made.
