Re: Wildlife
Every year me and my sister go fishing (Catch and release) and for the past three years every time we have gone my sister has caught something Wierd first she caught a large golden carp, then a Wierd giant perch bass...mix thing..then this time she caught something that looked like a giant tank ment cichlid.....My grandpa told her 'You always catch the Wierd stuff....'. xD I believe him!
Re: Wildlife
A few days ago/last week, me and my mom took a slightly scenic rout home from Horseshoe bend and on said road I saw a Cedar waxwing, it was the first one I'd ever seen but was unable to get a picture of it Also along that road I saw two male Western tanagers, they were so beautiful, but again, unable to get pictures Dx
We also had a young marmot in our front yard a few days ago, though it ran under the big dumpster we have before I could see it, apparently it got spooked by our cat xD
I think my most recent encounter was with the little gopher snake that somehow got into my room o_o I think it was attracted by all the mice I'd had in there, though it makes me wonder just how long it was there to begin with...
And one of my most memorable wildlife encounters was in Yellowstone, we were on the afternoon wildlife tour and came to an area that had a pound, and one of the guys on the tour pointed out a black bear, so we stopped and watched it and it went into the water and started splashing and playing around xD It was wonderful~
Heh, I also remember back in San Diego when I was little, I liked to put on a pair of gloves (which probably would have been useless if I had gotten bit X3) and catch the alligator lizards in the big wood pile in my cousins backyard xD
Erm, ahem, I think I got a little excited there xD

Re: Wildlife
Horseshoe Bend? As in Horseshoe Bend, ID?!
The starlings and house sparrows have chased off all the cool wildlife from around my house. Of course, it hasn't helped that the trees are all being cut down (because they are sick and dead) in the field next door.
I'm vising Boise right now (actually headed home today) and have seen SO MANY American Goldfinches. They're cool, and bright and pretty and sing so nice!

Thanks for this! We definitely heard some great horned owls. I wish I could've seen them, though.TNHawke wrote:If you live in North America, check out this site http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/browse?shape=43,13 Click on each owl's call and listen through it. Many are very unique. When you hear one that sounds similar, click on the link and take a look at where they normally live and you should be able to get a good guess as to what you had visiting.LightningDragon wrote:Owls seem to like my neighborhood. Just last night, my mother and I were getting back from a walk when we heard an owl hoot from behind our house. Lo and behold, two others answered it from the woods across the street. I'm not sure what they were, as I'm not very used to classifying owls by their hoots.
Watch out for the barn owl, their calls are creepy. You'd think that's what a 'screech' owl would say, but nope!
EDIT; We also have Chuck-will's-widows and nighthawks. This was really a helpful site.

Re: Wildlife
I am taking care of a injured cedar waxwing her wing is broken and she was found in the road and almost hit by another car. I think this was how her wing was broken. I am feeding her and making sure she is healthy. I couldn't leave her in the road she would of been picked off by a car or a cat who was hungry enough and she would of been a perfect target for a cat where she is unable to fly. I done some homework on the type of bird and they are apparently clumsy flyiers but the delimma I am in is her cage... far to small. I am only going to have her for a month or 6 weeks should I take her food out and leave her the water at night to give her room or should I poke around for a bigger cage for her?
anyone with helpful advice is free to message me. Also I would like to know if she can eat seeds. I know their diets are strictly on fruits and insects but will it be safe for her to have bread in small portions and seeds.

Yup! We get a lot of goldfinches in our yard (when my mom actually puts food out, anyway xD) and lately we've had a meadowlark sit on top of our house and sing its meadowlark song X3TNHawke wrote:Horseshoe Bend? As in Horseshoe Bend, ID?!

Oh, the other day when me and my mom went on a really long drive, we stopped at a gas station and I saw a male kestrel being dive bombed by dozens of kingbirds xD The poor thing finally gave up and flew away after a few minutes, but it was rather amusing to watch X3
Re: Wildlife
I went on vacation a week ago or so, and saw plenty of wildlife. Of course, I was most excited about seeing all the giant bugs everywhere. Too lazy to type everything up again, so link to blog post - http://rheasbuggery.blogspot.com/
Oh, and for the more wildlife-saavy people here - any idea as to what this is?

Re: Wildlife
The butterfly garden we planted on the deck is now home to all sorts of creatures. S colony of monarchs laid their eggs in the butterfly weed and so we had the catterpillars and thrir crysalis and finalky butterflies again . Also, a small green anole lizard made a home in the giant morning glory vines and I have ladybugs too. The polyphemous moth is still hanging around on our front screen. I thought he'd died but he fanned his wings and displayed his eye spits when we went by.

D'aww, I love the green anoles. We have brown Cuban anoles here, too, and I think they eat green anole young, sadly.TxCat wrote:The butterfly garden we planted on the deck is now home to all sorts of creatures.
