Not even Ancient China goes back that far.
You're right! I meant the ancient civilization of Greece, and a period as far back as 15,000 years ago had evidence. Cave doodles. I minced words, sorry >.<

Crazy, in Christian mythos, atheists don't make it into heaven simply based on the principle that we don't accept Jesus as our savior or god into our lives. Homosexual acts isn't really at the top of the list of offenses when that figures in. Everything else is like... extra sin. At least that's how I've been instructed.

I don't know if that's true... I looked in various sources (in spoiler) and I could only find the use of contraceptives going back to ancient Egypt in 3,000B.C.E., as well as the Ebers Papyrus in 1,500B.C.E., which details a recipe for some kind of contraceptive. .-.

Well, okay. So I'm sinning in a Catholic's eyes by being antitheist/atheist, but not in my eyes. Same for being homosexual, but not to the same degree. I get it.

The oldest reported "evidence" of an alleged condom was a cave painting in the Grottes des Combarelles (France). It's anywhere from 10,000 - 15,000 years old, which is incredibly vague, unfortunately. Another site about it says it's anywhere from 10,000 - 13,000 yrs old. It was supposedly made of animal skin, like most condoms were back then. I digress.

If it's not a sin to you, that's all that matters I suppose. I never actually considered, even while I was Christian, being a nontheist a sin. It was more a pity thing. Like we were supposed to pity those led astray by Satan's provocative message. Then again, it may have been a more tempered lesson geared towards children so as to not scare us or make us outwardly cruel towards non-Christians since that's technically a form of intolerance. I'm not sure how it's handled among adults. Are we sinning if we're "led astray" or as we simply exercising our right to question? And if it's not a sin to question, then why aren't other people with different beliefs just as guilty of "sinning" as people engaging in acts laid out in the Bible, like homosexuality?

And, to move the discussion more on topic, that leads me back to homosexuality. There are Christians who feel that all sins are equal and forgiveable. According to the standards of some Christian dogma, a person can commit homosexual acts from sun up until sun down, from the beginning of his or her life until the end. He or she can beg forgiveness from god, mean it, and receive it, and enter heaven, so long as the person accepts Jesus as their savior.

Then again, this view casts doubt on my previous lesson. If having a different belief isn't a sin, then why is engaging in a "different" sexual act a sin? Huh, I'd kind of like to know if anyone has an answer for that one.

Just a question. If a homosexual person also happened to be an atheist, so they weren't "turning from living their own way to God's way," would you say that they are not going to heaven? They don't believe in heaven anyways, nor do they believe in God. Would they be sinning in your eyes?
Sorry for taking a while to respond, but I was gone most of the weekend.
Now, the Bible say "ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," (Romans 3:23), and all who sin will be punished: "For the wages of sin is death," (Romans 6:23), and the only way to avoid the sentence of death is turn from one's own to way to God's way - that is, to repent - and accept Jesus gift of forgiveness: "Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish" (Luke 13:5), "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus," (Romans 3:23-24). Thus the Bible states that repenting and accepting Jesus' gift is the only way ANYONE, homosexual, atheist, or otherwise, will go to heaven: "And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)
So an atheist is a sinner in God's eyes, just like everyone else, according to the Bible, and isn't going to heaven unless they repent. And since I try to base my beliefs on the Bible's teaching, yes, I consider atheists (and everyone including myself) to be sinners.
A wicked one forgiven and saved by Jesus' loving sacrifice. ImageImageImageImageImage

As being a Christian and Roman Catholic, i will say that in the bible, it doe say some things that can be interpreted against gays, but it is also should be reminded that many of the bible is interpretative or made for the target audience at the time the bible was made. For example, the chapter Genesis and the creation of the world. This is not exactly how the world was made, god may not have waved his hands and a ball of earth was made, but may have set of the events of the big bang and evolution. It was told this way in Genesis for at the time of Jesus and after, they did not have the information and technology we have today, and many religions had answers to where we all came from, so the bible did the same thing. As well, many of the bible say Jesus/God love everyone, no matter what, and the he forgives all(confession.
On another note, i personally believe God is perfectly alright with gays, and even if god was not, they would mot likely go to purgatory, not hell, for the only people that go to hell are the one who go and break the 10 commandments. Of course, this doesn't mean every one is going to hell for most people have broken a few commandments, but for Christians, we go to confession to get them absolved(forgiven) but the only way this really works is if we are truly sorry for the sins we have committed, so if people who are not religious or are in a different religion who do not go to confession, i believe as long as you are truly sorry for your action and ask forgiveness from the person or just want forgiveness.
Sorry if i got off topic a little

I grew up going to a Catholic school, but have developed my own beliefs from what I was taught. I no longer believe in organized religion, but I believe that God wants us to love each other, no matter what. I believe that people who use the bible as an excuse to justify their hate have missed the bigger point.

I was taught that we are all God's children and to treat everyone with kindness. Of course, watching the teachers in my school as well as the pastors, I found that even people who claim to be good Christians don't follow this. My experience has led me to believe that religion is fallible. It is a set of rules created by mortals and interpreted by mortals, which is often twisted to their own agenda. (Funny how they never bring up the sin of wearing clothes made of two different materials.)

Also, a lot of the parables of the bible show how good people of other faiths are rewarded because they are good. It shows that we shouldn't judge people no matter their past or future. The story of the good samaritan, Mary Magdalene washing Jesus' feet with her tears, and even the fact that Judas was allowed to be an apostle when Jesus knew he would betray him shows that we are meant to treat others with kindness no matter their religion, sexual orientation, or sins past or future.

To me, God means Love. And in any act that contains Love, there is good. God doesn't judge us in black and white, but in the shades of grey that actually make up life. The people who use religion to perpetuate hate are going to be surprised when they need to spend time in purgatory to cleanse their soul, while the ones they damned are welcomed with open arms.

(I don't believe in Hell because of the way I see God. He is a father figure, so I feel He would forgive us no matter what because He wouldn't want to be separated from us forever. But as a father figure, He would still punish us for wrongdoings during our life.)

Um...not sure if anyone mentioned this and it has been a long time since I actually touched a Bible. But in my Sunday School classes I used to get bored by the lesson and would instead flip through the book to find more interesting looking stuff and there is one story that is interesting.

In the one story where the wife was turned into a block of salt, it mentioned there was two angels (who I assumed were in the shape of men) who stayed at the house of Lot. The next day there was a group of men who came to the door and demanded...well in the end both towns were destroyed, but in all the versions I've seen, that group wanted the angels for sexual reasons.

I dunno, take that as you want. I was just reading around and decided to add my own two cents.
The Wishlist in my profile is outdated (I can't quite figure out how to edit it now, so many of the creatures there have already been obtained).

Gift ideas: Really am looking for a Varja Crystalwing for future breeding of pygmies and Gemdragons.
