I have a young cat named Brae, a purebred silver classic torbie Maine Coon. She's a bit snooty, and was a lot nicer to me when she was younger. Since she's a Maine Coon, she also loves playing with dogs and is incredibly sociable.

Also, does anyone else feed their cat raw food? Not as a main meal, but more for nutrients and health and as a snack.

What sort of raw food. Like, wet cat food or actual raw meat like chicken/pork/beef?
The former yes, the latter no. In fact, it's probably not even healthy to give them raw meat-
chicken=salmonella
pork=can carry parasites
That's why they need to be cooked thoroughly before you eat them.
Now, we occasionally feed them tinned meat or sliced lunch meat, that's alright for them, but never pieces of raw meat.

And it doesn't help by giving the anti-dog Brigade an excuse to ban dogs from parks and beaches. It's an important part of dog ownership. The poop could contain anything and though children are un likely to pick any up, they might and it's a pain if you tred on it.

It's not expensive even to pick it up. I buy simple Nappy sacks from the supermarket and they work just fine. I, either carry them, or tie them to my dog's lead. Unless of course I can find a bin. Ideally one that specialises in dog poo.
Oh my gosh, I hate that! I have been falsely accused of not picking up after my dog being one of the younger dog owners in my apartment complex. :t--.-:

Actually, feeding your pets a raw diet is SOOOOOO much healthier for them than most of the crap in a bag you get at the stores. It needs to be handled the same as if it was for human consumption but it's actually very safe. Google the BARF diet (might come up with info mostly for dogs but other than the portions and some of the supplements, it should carry over to cats too), raw feeding, or anything else along those lines and you'll find tons of info about feeding raw meat to your pets.

And no, once your pet tastes raw meat it's not going to make them aggressive or mean or want to kill babies. My dog eats half raw and half kibble and the only thing he does to kids is drool on them. I'd feed my cat raw also but he's so imprinted on kibble that the only human food he'll eat is the water from a can of tuna.

We lost a pet today. Dorie's mouse Ramses passed away. He was an adult when we got him and would have been nearly three years old at this point so that's not a bad run for the little guy.

We are plsanning on getting another because Dorie loves them so and our home wouldn't be the same without one. I am going to miss my writing buddy; he had the cutest habit of coming up the the front of the cage to sniff ad see who was there. If it was me or Dorie, he would make this happy little cheepiing mouse before going back about his business.

I have a Pomerinian x Jack Russal (I presume) I found him wandering around my aunt's house when he was a fluffily bundle of love at 8 months old. His name is Pippin (yes, from LOTR - my mother's idea!), and his name suits him perfectly! He is extremely agile, and enthusiastically gets himself into awkward positions every now and then. :D

I got a new puppy in August last year, a purebred (my first) Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He is a tricolor, and wins every one's heart he meets - even my brother's, and he is very hard sell for animals! My puppy is now almost 9 months old, and his name is Dastan (from Prince of Persia, my idea lol). For those of you who don't know (which I bet is quite a lot, :p) 'Dastan' means story/a character with outstanding morals.
My Dastan is a bouncing, woofing, kissing monster that wakes us up some night by barking at passing cars. He is addicted to toilet rolls, the inside cardboard. Whenever I go to the toilet/bathroom he sits under the roll, staring up in hopeful longing. Does anyone know if this habit is bad? He chews the cardboard up and sometimes swallows the small bits chewed off. So far I've noticed no changes in eating/drinking/energy levels, but if anyone here knows if it is hazardous, please let me know!

I love my two dogs, they are like my children. I often joke to my mom about them, telling her they will most probably be the only grandchildren she'll ever get from me (I'm single). :haha:

I've read pros and cons about raw feeding. Some of the arguments seem valid, some have been absurd. I've only looked into it to find out about it, I've never considered doing it. My #1 reason for NOT feeding raw is that it is far too expensive. I can't even give myself whole meats daily, there's no way I could feed the dog or all the cats such a thing. My second concern is parasites. "Proper handling of meats" includes cooking them. And cooking the meat is what RAW feeders claim is bad. So, since feeding raw is out, I did my research to find the most economical, healthy kibble options. Surprisingly, it's Costco's Kirkland brand. It showed up in the top 10 and sometimes even in the top 3 of all the lists I looked at. (granted, this was 4-5 years ago). The cost for the bag is a little more expensive, but cheaper than the higher grades of food, such as Blue Buffalo which comes out on top on almost every list I looked at. So, that's what my critters get to eat. My raven also gets cat and dog kibble, and he's in excellent health. (he's also the only one who regularly gets raw meat, such as ground beef and ground turkey, as well as hearts and livers and such. He also gets mice and birds and such when I can get them- not wild ones, ones bred to be feeders)

...

I thought I had something else I came in here to say, but now that I've babbled about that, I've forgotten what it was. Sooo... good night!

I have two female leos Bandit and Crystal and hope to have a mate for bandit this summer as a school project.
So I got bandit about three years ago *flashback. I originally had one but it died within the first few weeks. That got me fired up and researched all I could about leopard geckos. I got second one (Bandit) and she's still with me. <3

I currently own 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 6 horses. The dogs are a soon-to-be 6 year old male Pom mix (Baxter), 8 year old female Pembroke Welsh Corgi (Cheyenne), and a soon-to-be 10 year old female Labrador mix (Akasha). The Pom and the Lab are both rescues and the Corgi was bought from a woman getting out of breeding.

My cats, Chyna and Kali, are a Siamese and big hulking calico something-or-other respectively. Both came from the animal shelter and they're roughly 3 and 2.

The horses belong mostly to me, though the pony is my brother's. Jesse is a 16.3hh Thoroughbred. Ransom: 17.1hh Perch cross. Hawk should finish up at about 16.2hh and is a Paint cross. Noble is a 17.2hh Oldenburg and Rose is a 16hh Thoroughbred. My brother's pony, Fiona, is a 14.2-3hh Haflinger.

Lately, I've been considering building an indoor aviary to keep some finches. I've had mostly parrots, so I'm still doing my research on the species. If anyone has any advice or knows of some good reference material, I'm all ears (er, eyes).
