@Fuiuki
Unfortunately, yes, fish do get mistreated easily.
Between people being misinformed due to false information, and not doing any research, they get neglected that way. They also get neglected by people that get bored of them, or stop caring, since fish aren't the most exciting pet you can have.

I'm sorry you can't have more pets where you live.

Growing up I felt like I never had enough pets.
We had a dog for most my youth (from when I was in kindergarten, all the way until highschool), as well as a beta fish, a gold fish, and some birds. My mom had canaries, and my sister and I had parakeets.

I always wanted more pets though. Lol.

My brother had two rats at one point, as well. They were super cute. Luckily I wasn't allergic to them then. Now I'm quite allergic. If they even touch me, I get hives. The last time I was at my best friend's apartment, she had a feeder rat (that was intended to be food for her snake) that had babies. So she kept them, and found them homes instead. I went down there with another friend so she could adopt a few. I didn't touch the rats, since I knew it would be a problem, but we ended up having to leave after only 45 minutes because it was getting hard for me to breath, with so many rats there. Very sad, since I really love the cute little babies.

Thankfully my cat allergy has gotten better, by being around them.
I used to be much more allergic. It would be hard to breath, and I would be very itchy. Once I even got hives after spending the night at a friend's house, and sleeping on the same sheets her cats had slept on. That's the only time I've gotten full on hives from cats though.

Now I have two kitties of my own. It took quite a while for my allergy to get better, but my boyfriend, when I started dating him, had two cats. They were older cats, so somewhat dandery, but after being around them more and more frequently, eventually my body got used to it. Then my roommate, after I moved out of my dad's house, got a kitten. She hardly bothered my allergies at all!

It took some time to get used to my two current cats, mostly the long haired kitten when we got him. But my cat that I had for a couple years, before he passed away earlier this year, didn't bother my allergies at all. He was the cleanest cat. Well, he and my current cat, my siamese.

Heh, pardon my rambling xD

Dinner the 14" goldfish. I think that just made my day. :D He's a very handsome fellow. As handsome as a fish could be, that is.

I think someone forgot to tell our cat that she's not supposed to like belly rubs.

Because I can walk into a room where she's lying on the bed, she'll look at me and then roll onto her back, stretch her legs out fully exposing her belly. And then start purring as I pet her. She loves getting her tummy rubbed.

Lol, Donner was named after the Donner party, the pioneer party that had to resort to cannibalism to survive. Because that's the sort of humor my boyfriend and I have xD

Kitty belly rubs are awesome! My cats occasionally are ok with it. But not normally. xD

So I got this cat when I was, what, in the... 4th? Grade. Well, they were actually two. They're sisters, one's a calico and one's a tiger. They came to our house because originally they were owned by the people across the road to my house. They came totally on their own, but we didn't know the people across the road owned them. Thinking they were strays, we fed them, and when they stayed, we brought them into the house.
Basically, we took them in. So traveling in time, we have owned them for a year now. We haven't gone camping yet while we own them, and it's summer. We go every summer, and so when we left, we came home to be told while out cat-sitter was gone, the people across the road stole the cats. Both of them. We went over there and demanded them back. It took some convincing, but it's not like it mattered, they were mistreated across the road, so why would they want them back?
I don't believe they had a right to steal them, and it just made me really mad. Like, what made them think they could steal them?? They weren't their's anymore.

Actually you stole them from the people over the road... I think they had every right to demand them back. If someone took in one of my cats thinking it was a stray and then refused to give it back I'd be really annoyed. What did you do to find the cats' proper owners when they turned up? If they only came from over the road you really didn't have too far to go to find their home. Had you come to any sort of agreement with them over who should keep them when you discovered they belonged over there? What evidence do you have that they were mistreated? Just because they came to you does not constitute mistreatment at their home.
Thank you to everyone who gifted me :)

My cat would shank me if I did that.

I think that is the main point: how much discussion was there between the two parties inbetween all this? At what point did they know you had the cats, at what point did you know they belonged to them first? If it was enough time, I don't know why they wouldn't take steps to get the cats back sooner.

Depending where you live, there's probably going to be some different laws anyway (although I can imagine that some places might not define them at all). My state, when I started working at a shelter in it, had just changed the stray period from something like 7 days to 4 days (specification on a full day vs. when they can be legally put up for adoption). This meant that someone taking care of an animal for that many days made it the legal owner (in this case the shelter, giving them permission to put the animals up for adoption). I'm not actually sure what specifications are set on indoor/outdoor cats, which judging by both being out of the house and you thinking they were strays, they were likely indoor/outdoor. This is why we push microchipping so much either way; not only does it get a lost pet home, it can settle who the owner is.

My favorite pet is my clown loach. Clown Loaches like to mess around by leaning on their sides, or laying on their sides or back sometimes. I recently got a pvc pipe, and it seems to really enjoy it. Clown Loaches can get really big, being at least a foot long, but they still school together, getting into tight, cramped areas of a fish tank like a clown car. For some reason, they like to see me, making it easy to play peek a boo with it. I'm weird, but this fish is weird as well.

I have so many pets!
I really can't pick a favorite!
I have 13 snakes, 10 birds (and 5 hatchlings!), a dog, 2 cats and a few fish.
People tend to hate snakes, but I really love mine. Sure, they can't be cuddled or trained, but I have my dog and cats for that.
It's their colors, unique personalities, and interesting instinct/ behavior that really makes me love them. Treat them right, understand them, and they'll never bite you.
