Nice pictures TxCat Beautiful to see them in flight.
I also don't get why people think budgies are stupid. I had four or five over the course of my childhood and also found them to be quite intelligent. I always had a blue and white male though the last one had a yellow mask which looked pretty cool. He always rode around on my train set and starting bobbing his head up and down and babbling incoherently, he knew a lot of words but made a mess of it.
My father was one of the founders of a local bird lovers society and I always got the breeding rejects ie. a cheek-spot slightly off etc. They would never kill them but sell the lesser quality off as pets.
The beauty of it was that they were already used to human presence and I didn't have a hard time getting them tame though I honestly never had a problem raising my pets to be well...pets.
We used to own a red-tailed parrot, we had to give him to another member of the bird lovers because we didn't have enough spare time for him anymore, who sang horrible corny songs(hello mutha and hello fatha...argh!) and made a "gluck-gluck-gluck" sound the minute my mom or dad stepped near their bar. It was embarrassing to them as people started to think they were raging alcoholics or something.

My mom had parakeets/budgies (Same thing? I'm not sure, I'm not really a bird person ><') when she was a teenager and she told me that they learned to mimic they various barks of their dogs, every time I picture a bird barking, it makes me laugh xD

Re: Pets
I have just been informed, that when I am not home, and anyone has to come into the apartment for maintenance or some such, not only does my dog bark at them, but so does my raven! I'm going to have to give a 'stranger' my camera and show them how to take a video of this, because I would LOVE to see it. I don't doubt them, I just want to see it! *laughs*

Re: Pets
I used to have a parakeet myself we called 'im 'spazz' because he was a spazzy lovable chatterhead
and we adopted him from another family that taught him alot of words but he'd say em so fast he would just be spouting a long run on sentence when he was all excited
though I DID teach him one word that he always said clearly when I pulled a doofus move *like opening a cupboard and whapping myself in the face* and that word was 'BAKA!'
though if I slipped and fell on my arse he'd 'chitterlaugh' and THEN call me a baka
I miss that lil featherhead...we had to let an aunt watch him at her house while getting the house bug bombed thanks to an infestation of ticks a couple summers back and then when we went to take him home when the fumes were gone we learned my aunt's dratted cat had EATEN him! she says it was an accident but I don't think it was...

Re: Pets
I am not surprised Sam barks; ravens are great mimics.
Dee's Jenna has learned where the speaker button is on a cell phone. If it rings, she'll poke it and then yell, "Go away, you little shit, I'm working!"
Embarrassing enough if that person isn't used to our household ( sadly, Dee's coworkers are used to both his language and the antics of the bird). Disaster if it happens to be my Ma or the husband's Pa!
The budgies know some bad language which they will happily repeat for the vet but my least favorite comes from Dorie, who occasionally burns thing in the kitchen.
Imagine hearing "Holy shit! Fire! Fire!" in your girlfriend's voice in the middle of the night.

Re: Pets
he is a pure breed teacup pomeranian. He is what is called a blue Merele, a rare color for the breed.
I don't pick him up for two weeks however so I don't know his favorite toys. He is eatting whatever the breeder has him on .. a mix of wet and dry food.
I am so excited, on March 4th i travel three hours to go get him.
Most likely his name will be Zazu from lion king as i am going to let my kid name him.
