I could use some help.. I have a rabbit, about 97% sure she's a dwarf hotot. Just a few minutes ago she randomly jumped in her water bowl, which still has water in it, I picked her up out of it then she flopped on her side, like rabbits sometimes do, her ears felt a bit warm but I'm not sure if that just her normal body temperature or not. She's trembling a bit and just isn't acting herself... I can't really go to a vet because 1. Our local vet only does cats and dogs and I don't know where the nearest vet that will do bunnies is and 2. It's 5:44 AM.
I'm kinda scared, I lost the bunny I had prior to her and I really don't want her have fallen ill and die ;~;
Edit; Well, whatever was up with her this morning seems to have gone away, she looks perfectly fine and is acting her usual self now o3o

Re: Pets
I have one dog, a golden retriver named Lady. She got her name from the animated movie, The Lady and the Tramp. I insisted on this name when i was young. When we first got her, my grandparents brought her to our house, and she was like an oversized bullet, running throughout the house! I was so scared i jumped onto the furniture to avoid the unstoppable force that was Lady. Now she is older, and loves to eat socks and make messes. She STILL has not learned any tricks, even fetch, but will chase any ball you throw her. And...never bring it back.

Please don't take this as a criticism because I certainly don't mean it as one but you would be doing yourself a huge favor finding a vet who can/will work with rabbits. I know it's always heartbreaking to think that they may be suffering and feeling helpless.
Personally, I've somehow amassed 4 vets, an equine vet, an avian vet, a small animal, and an emergency vet. I don't have birds anymore (for now) but it's nice to know that if a friend has a problem with a bird I can tell them where to go to get help.
I'm glad to hear your bunny is doing better.

Re: Pets
We've been looking for a vet to give our dog some shots so we can take her out without her getting sick. Every vet here is either too expensive or too.... not right, they give me the willies. We're going to another town though soon to look. My puppy is so purdy, she looks like a rot with medium length hair. she's husky/rot mix.

Re: Pets
Is a chidoodle a labradoodle x chiuahua, or a poodle x chiuahua?
But, anyway. I have one male dog, a border collie called Kelly, who is about 8 years old and Kiya, about a 3 year old female border collie. Kelly is a black and white, Kiya is a red and white (though it's really more caramel than red). I also have one female tabby, called Alley (apparently because she's an alley cat *eyeroll*) and a norweigan black forest cat, or something like that, called Panda (because she's black and white). Both the cats are about 1 year old.

Re: Pets
I've kept finches and other softbills. I currently have a breeding pair of diamond doves and am looking at getting finches again. What would you like to know? I can probably help out.Grizzogold wrote:Lately, I've been considering building an indoor aviary to keep some finches. I've had mostly parrots, so I'm still doing my research on the species. If anyone has any advice or knows of some good reference material, I'm all ears (er, eyes).
http://the-only-nighthawk.deviantart.co ... 72#/dnc5rh here we go. That's a link to a photo and info page I have up on DeviantART from back when a friend was considering finches and wanted to know about my set up. Definitely read through the comments and stuff, there's a lot of good information in there.
Best baby finch photo EVER. She's a fledgling society finch snuggled in the collar of my shirt.

Oh, how adorable!
Thank you for the link. There's definitely some good information there. The biggest problem I'm having right now is finding information on fresh food that are okay for finches. My lovebird had a fondness for apples and I don't know if they could handle something like that.
Also, are there any feeding quirks that are unique to them?

Re: Pets
In my experience they seem to like finely chopped leafy greens better than most other things, but for the most part what can be given to parrots can be given to finches as long as it's chopped very small. Just steer clear of things like avocados, citrus, and onions, really.Grizzogold wrote:Oh, how adorable!

Re: Pets
Wouldn't domestic finches have a similar diet to their wild relatives-i.e gold finches, purple finches, house finches...? Those one I know love sunflower seeds and whatever else is in the finch birdseed mix. The shape of their bills are designed for cracking open seeds. I'd suggest buy finch mix bird seed.
Our kitten Tora is so photogenic
Isn't she a cutie?- http://icypheonix.deviantart.com/art/To ... -293533907
She's 9 and half months old now(and still rather small). Her meows sound like squeaky cries though.
