What I would do when getting a new pet Ive never had before. Id talk to an experienced owner to see what they have done and figure out what is best for you. Most people who work at pet stores have little experience with reptiles and other unique pets. You might run into someone with some experience but talk to someone who has had them for years is what I would feel is best. The internet would be ok if it was a site that was actually true and breeder based facts and suggestions.

This time, it's so bad that he's peed in the house twice and snarled at me the first time when I shoved him out the door to finish. (He was scared and I was being aggressive because he'd peed in the house. I should have realised sooner that it was fear causing the problem.) Today, I've been taking him out on his leash and he'll go once he's out there, but he is scared, won't go past the point of the hill, and heads right back in once he's done. I'm not really asking for advice, just ranting that my dog is a wimp. lol He usually gets over it after a week or 2. It's just obnoxious to have to coddle a 70+lb dog through potty trips, especially when it's cool and rainy.
Now it gets weirder. Sirius Lee died last September. in November, we took in my daughter's puppy ostensibly while she was in the hospital with a newborn. With one thing and another coming up, he has been with us most of the time since. There is a hole in the back fence that he can get out, so we've been taking him out on a leash for a few months now. (Grouchy neighbor won't fix it himself, nor accept any "lesser" fix than his own.) In the last few weeks, he too has developed an aversion to the back yard. He is often reluctant to go out the back door and, once out, doesn't want to go to the back of the yard. He will pull back against the leash and has even tried to slip his collar once past the tree in the middle of the yard. Nothing has happened to him back there, but he is exhibiting the exact same behaviors as Sirius Lee, though the 2 never met.
Feel free to click my entire keep. Anything I don't want to grow is protected.

Could there be some wild animals that visit the yard, and that makes it smell weird? Or even neighborhood cats if the pee in there? Maybe a weird continuous noise that the pups can hear but humans can't? Or ant/wasp/other insect nests and they've bitten/stung the dogs without it being clearly noticeable? :orly:

I would think the puppy is anticipating something - and the smell of something he wants to avoid is the best bet if there isn't something to see. I don't suppose there's any way you could rig up a web cam to find out?

Also, I'd suggest making a 'repair' to the fence that doesn't actually touch the neighbour's fence (that way he can't complain about it) - a pile of logs or a large planter or something which blocks the hole (I don't know the hole, or what is practical!) so the dog can't get through, you really shouldn't have to keep a dog on a lead in your own yard! I'm willing to bet the neighbour would be the first to complain if the dog got through onto his property. If he does complain, you can legitimately say you are doing it to stop potential damage to his property and inconvenience to him from your dog...

And RIP Sirius Lee :(

I have two cats. One, was a stray and basically adopted us. She was crazy at first. When you dropped a feather, she would run for her life, the poor thing. She's better now, and spends her time chasing her brother and getting him to chase her.

My resting pets:
Dante: An all black cat who belonged to my family when I was little. He was very sweet with one curled ear, but I didn't see or pet him much. Only came out from under my parent's bed at night until he was old. It got to the point where he couldn't eat and had to put him down.
Pegan: Never knew him, I think my parents owned him before I was born/when my mom was pregnant with me. As far as I know, he was an awesome cat.
Zoey: An adorable bobtail. We gave her to my Aunt after my little bro came around (I think). She was Calico and was put down because of age.
Cuatro: A stray who adopted us. I think I was one when he showed up on our doorstep. Named him Cuatro because he was our fourth cat. Died of a heart attack. (Learn more in Crowly)
Duchess: A yellow lab mixed with a Golden retriever. LOTS OF FUR. Was put down because she could barely walk.
Lola: A mutt. Adopted her as a puppy. Went blind and def. Couldn't move. Had to put down because of that.
We also had two rats, Buddy and Mayflower.

Currently alive animals:
Chea: Black Longhair, adopted as a kitten. She's a sass and queen of the house, but we love her anyway :p
Crowly: A tabby. Addicted to catnip. My cat. Is declawed. Snugly at night, LEAVE ME ALONE!!!! during the day. The same day we adopted him, Cuatro died of the Heart Attack.
Eddie: Adopted from foster mom on Thanksgiving. A Lynx.Siamese. Very jumpy and scared of everything. Adopted as a kitten.
Lucy: A bloodhound of sorts. She loves Carrots. That's all I can really say :p
Karma: A pure bred Greyhound rescued from a racetrack in Arizona. Brindle. Adorable.
My Aunt also has cats, brothers, Art and Dart. Dart is black and white, Art is orange and white. Both adopted as kittens, both now fat. Full names are Artimus and Dartanion.

we lost our little white and black cat, Minou, yesterday because of a careless driver :( She was only 5. In nearly 30 years of having cats she's the first I've lost to a road accident. Somehow I always knew we wouldn't have her long, but all the same. She'd lost her collar and tag (again!) a couple of days ago but some lovely lady took her to the vet to check her microchip. I'm very grateful to her as we might never have known what had happened otherwise. Very sad and upset and today we need to dig a hole for her :(
