I am strictly against it.
Why?
Someone killed another person - he/she is guilty of committing a crime.
The criminal is sentenced to death - and now it suddenly isn't a crime anymore to kill the murderer.
For me killing is something you should never do. Killing someone because she/he killed someone is not justice. It's the same crime.

Naah. Come one. If someone did horrible things then the death will be like a present for them. They maybe dont want to die but if they killed someone then they should suffer in the same way. THe death would just only be a way to escape the suffering for what they did.

I don't agree with the "eye for an eye" sentiment simply because it makes those upholding justice no better than the one being given justice (if you can even call it that). It's obvious that some of you have never had any close contact with a situation in which the death penalty might be required (for which, incidentally, I am intensely glad. No one should ever have to suffer through that). The deaths of the victims are often so abhorrent, so violent, so abnormal that your average human being couldn't even conceive of killing another in that manner. No one with any kind of a conscience SHOULD have to kill in that manner.Phoenix07 wrote:THe death would just only be a way to escape the suffering for what they did.
You're assuming that those who commit these crimes feel something. According to the studies and interviews I've read, a lot of them don't. The victim has been objectified until there is no connection between the deed and the killer other than a pleasant memory. Many of them will bluntly tell investigators and psychologists that they would kill again if allowed to do so. Some of them confessed to enjoying it. Quite a few don't know why they do what they do and therefore cannot feel guilt, shame, or remorse over their actions. Death isn't an escape from suffering for them. It's just another pending fact.
Society is sometimes better served by execution of these individuals so that they don't have the chance to continue their crimes. Far too many get out on parole with good behavior; they have sociopathic components which allow them to manipulate the system. Still others get transfers to less secure facilities, where they promptly escape and go back into the general population.
Even when they remain contained in a secure facility, they will often continue their crimes by perpetrating them on other inmates.
Keep in mind that the majority of these are people who kill because they can and they have a compulsion to do so. There simply is no way to stop them or to cure them at this time.

I fully support the death penalty, even though I live in a state where it isn't allowed. I think that if someone had committed the crimes that they have, then they should face the consequences.

I don't agree with simply because the fact is, the law states we aren't allowed to kill people but if the government decide to kill someone for their actions it doesn't really make them much better than the person that committed the crime, so the government would really be just as bad. And anyway people make mistakes when they're investigating who did the crime, you can come to the conclusion that it was person 1 who did the crime and then kill them only to find out later about some new evidence that states it was clearly person 2. How would you feel if you killed the wrong person? No human should be allowed to make the decision to kill someone. We have no right to.
In ways I think it's 'the easy way out' by killing them but I know that the government pay a lot of money keeping prisoners. In ways prison is a nice place, you get food, a warm bed, clothes, washing facilities etc. For some people life is better there than what it was wherever they were before. I saw a programme on TV (forget what is was, sorry) where people in India wanted to go to prison because they were so poor and life would be better for them in prison than the place they currently lived at.
They should be made to do extremely hard labour for the government or something similar to that. Which would benefit the country the person is in. Or for example they should be shipped out to a third world country and build houses etc to make their lives better.

This forum requires a bit more thought be put into answers. One or two lines really isn't acceptable, especially since the OP placed specific questions at the beginning of the thread. Please take the time to answer fully with fact supporting your answers or at least an in-depth commentary of your beliefs.nightclaw wrote:I fully support the death penalty, even though I live in a state where it isn't allowed. Re: Death Penalty- Yay or Nay?
Personally, i fully support and believe in the death penalty. Sometimes, though, it is not appropriate punishment. For a lot of crimes, life in prison is a better suited punishment. I do support more varied types of punishment, though... I don't like that you can ONLY get lethal injection. I support other types, such as firing squad, hanging, beheading, and more. The type of crime that deserves death is murder, rape, and other crimes that ruin one's life forever. Crimes that I believe deserve life in prison are things like child abuse, animal abuse, attempted murder, embezzlement, and other such crimes.
Re: Death Penalty- Yay or Nay?
I see how its not enough, but an injection is not painful enough.Like others said, were paying out of our tax's and the states money to house a moron. I say Yay,we should kill the offender. But in a different way....
I don't believe in torture but if you tortured someone, then you should be tortured. I really think a little shot is not enough, maybe the shock chair is. That hurts like hell, and is simply torture (i heard...). I say we should change the penalty, lets make em suffer for others suffer.
(I know im jacked up...)

Re: Death Penalty- Yay or Nay?
I support the death penalty. These are dangerous criminals if they are under Death Row and people want to keep them around because of the "every life is precious" mentality? Yes, they killed people and they should deal with the consequences. But compared to their victims, they will have a much more dignified death, much more than they even deserve.
I read in the news that my state has the largest number of people under Death Row, but not in executions. Prisons are getting crowded because no one is being executed. Then they are using tax dollars and government funding to expand these prisons to put more criminals in. College tuition in my state is skyrocketing because college funding is constantly being cut for government operations (including maintaining these prisons).
Now, tell there's nothing completely wrong to keep criminals alive while cutting education year after year.

Re: Death Penalty- Yay or Nay?
I agree, it isn't harsh enough. But criminals can use their sneaky minds and fing ways to escape, such as a riot. Or they don't get enough time or get released. It's a life for life matter. You have to think of it from another angle Like this for example:Wolfsister wrote:I don't really support the death penalty, but not because it's harsh. I don't think it's harsh enough; it gives them a fast, simple out, no matter how bad we think death may be. If someone hurt me in some way bad enough to warrant the death penalty, I would probably vote instead for their continued life in jail where they can suffer longer for what they did. Of course, I'm not terribly proud of that opinion, but I've always had a hard time accepting that bad people automatically go to some terrible hell, so death just seems too easy.
Added to that, I don't really think we have the right to kill someone, even if killing was their crime. I didn't always feel that way, and I haven't explored my boundaries on it, but I do stick with that general idea.
If you were a mother or a father, and someone cold blooded and heartless brutally and violently murdered your child who was innocent, smart, and perfect, would you want that killer to live?
I personally, think that if someone did a horrific crime, they should pay the ultimate price, what they did. And I agree, we don't have the right to kill someone, but one someone commited such a horrific night mare they desrve it. Death may be easy when it comes to the death penalty, but having a criminal being able to LIVE after killing someone and hurting their family is wrong.
