Phantoms in the Clock Tower OoC Thread

Post by PastelPeach »

Welcome fellow roleplayers! This is an Out of Character chat thread for the members of Phantoms in the Clock Tower, or those merely interested in the rp. ^.^ While here, please do not reveal who your Golem character is, as I would like the keep Golem identities a secret until they have been revealed within the roleplay.

You may notice the voting poll up above. I've been struggling with this on my own, so I decided to ask for the opinions of others. A Golem character form is rather... lacking compared to the human forms, but there is a very precise reason for that. A Golem does not exist until they are named, although they are without a personality due to the way that magical upgrades work.

However, due to their lacking-ness, assigning Golems to humans can be a bit difficult. There are two different ways I have been considering how to achieve this. The first is that Golems be given only a name, but no appearance. Then a human would choose a Golem, and then give them a name from the list of available Golem names, who will be actual roleplayers. That would mean that roleplayers would choose their character's name, but that the appearance will be decided by the human that buys them. Now the reason I am considering this option is because it is the name that brings the Golem to life. The shell is completely secondary to the name. As an example, if a Golem in one universe were named Alice, and the same exact Golem in a parallel universe were named Bob, they would be two completely different dolls despite looking the exact same. However, if a Golem in one universe were named Caroline, and a completely different Golem in a parallel universe was also named Caroline, there would be a chance that they are actually the same doll despite their different appearances. As such, I have taken great care to try to choose a variety of different appearances to try to hopefully raise the chance of roleplayers being satisfied with the Golem appearance they receive.

However, because I realize that some roleplayers might not like having absolutely no control over their Golem appearance (well, not absolutely no control. Some names will match one appearance more than the other, much like how people tend to look like their names.). The alternative is that roleplayers can choose their character's appearance, but not their character's name. Then a human character will choose the Golem based on said appearance, and then name them for you. This goes against the fact that it is giving a Golem a name that is important, not the body/shell, but just in case this is preferred more I decided to present it as an option.

Anyway, so those are the options. I've opened up the poll for people who like the privacy of voting, but people are more than welcome to post here in the OoC or send me a PM to further discuss this Golem issue.

Alright folks, so it took me a while, but I've come up with a third alternative. This new option allows roleplayers to choose both the name and appearance of their Golem character. This can be achieved through this quote that I put in the roleplay:
I will be roleplaying the salespeople, as well as the guild masters, and the storyline of the jobs. Anything important or not being roleplayed by my characters will be in bold. If something is in bold, chances are it is either not me roleplaying as a character or is important, possibly both. When using the bold, there will be cases where I will momentarily control a character other than my own. In these cases, I am not controlling the character as a roleplayer, but as a game master, and will only do so when it is necessary to the story. An example would be if I had a ghost kidnap a random character. Other than these brief bolded moments, I will not control characters.
So to put it in another set of words: I will temporarily control the character during the ritual that awakens the Golem. It will be a very short instance, and will only be for the ritual portion of interaction and nothing else (either that, or I will PM the name once the Golem has been purchased. Which ever you all prefer). That way, Golem identities will remain a secret, but it will still provide the illusion that it is the name that is provides the power, as well as give roleplayers the ability to choose name and appearance. If members would prefer this third option, then please vote for 'Other' in the poll question.

Thank you! ^_^ I've been running all over the place trying to organize and plan everything for this in between everything, so I'm glad to hear it's turning out well.

Could two human characters split the cost of a house, or does it have to be one person per house?

There's absolutely no preventions against characters splitting costs on any housing arrangements, permanent or temporary. Heck, characters can even pay for other characters if they want and have the bullets to pay for it. Upgrades as a birthday gift, anyone?

So, I am definitely going to be submitting a form for this because I love the detail and unique nature of the RP. However, I have a question as I didn't see it in the posts you have made. How are bullets managed? Does the player have a set number that they start with or do they get to determine their status of rich, middle or poor? How do players submit payments? Are you going to be keeping track of payments/income?

Bullets are essentially used just like we would use money. Just have a character purchase something incharacter, usually by telling a salesperson that they want to buy an upgrade or such. Salespersons can be found at Automatons & U, The Golem Workshop, and The Dollhouse, which are all just generic shop places of little importance other than to provide characters a place to buy things from. I only place prices on housing, dolls, and upgrades (I might eventually include weapons as well). However, objects such as food and clothes I will not price so characters are free to obtain them however they feel, whether it be through stealing, bartering, or making it themselves. I will be keeping track of all characters bullets supplies, which can be used both as a form of currency and as ammunition for artillery weapons. In other words, shooting a zombie will use a bullet the same way as spending them will. I wanted to keep gun usage to a minimum, so I figured bullets as currency would help with this. Also, only human characters will have bullets (unless a human gives some to their Golem, but those bullets would still be tallied as part of the humans supply). As for housing payments, I will simply deduct the payment from each character's supply at the end of each week (roleplay week, not real time mind you). If a character does not have enough to pay for the housing arrangement they have chosen, they would be considered as being indebt, will have a negative bullet supply, and will be unable to purchase anything or use guns until they have paid back the entire debt in whole.

Does that help explain? :orly:

The second to last post. You're not the first to have missed it, so I'm not really too surprised. I'll probably move it the the FAQ section or something once I've gotten the thread more organized
