Helios
Helios smiled, thinking, “Aruna, the headmistress of the household, and Zoran, the head of the household.” He would remember those names. One day, he would pay them for their kindness.

“Some chicken soup would be very nice, thank you,” he said to Aruna as she offered to make him some food.

Suddenly, the front door burst open, bringing in the cold night air, leaves, and a girl who looked like she lived in the woods as a hermit. Yet, there was some type of light coming from her. Some type of warmth. He just couldn’t put his finger on it. He light brown hair fell loosely across her small frame. She stared at the him with lovely, clear blue eyes, that sparkled with life and liberty. A free-spirit. Her cute freckles dances across her face, bringing his attention to her eyes. Those thick eyelashes… those eyes… clear as a cloudless sky…

She dashed up to her room. Who was she?

Helios turned to look at Zoran and Aruna, who showed obviously similarities to the girl.

“Excuse me sir, but was that your daughter? If you don’t mind me asking, what is her name?”

___________________________________________
Aria (Quick note, I changed the wolf’s name to Yukiko. Could you change the name in the first post? I think I only put his name in the companion section, but if you see any other part with his name, could you please change that for me as well? Thank you!)

“Helios can’t be lost! He’s a skilled hunter,” she argued with Giles.

Giles, Aria, and Troy stood in the dim planning fort, trying to figure out how to play their cards accurately. Yukiko rested as his master’s feet, his warm breath on her feet comforting her. The candle illuminating a map of the Kaliese forest.

Yukiko, who sensed that his master was upset, growled at the brown-haired, green eyed knight. Giles took an unsteady step back.

“Look, any...anything can...can happen in the woods,” he muttered nervously.

“Giles, calm down. Aria, control that animal of yours,” said Troy, the leader of the knights. “Aria, Giles is correct. Anything can happen in the woods...”

“Then what were the other knights doing!” Aria interrupted. “There’s no way he’d be lost and they aren’t! Jackson is with him! He’s the best trailblazer in the whole kingdom! He could find a freaking needle in a pine forest. He could climb all the way to the top of the tallest mountains! Even if they are lost, Jackson would have already found a way back.”

“You know you’re just admitting Helios got lost, right?” Giles said.

“I…” Aria paused. “Something must have happened to all of them. There’s no way Helios would ever leave their sight. Michael was with them… He is super over-protective of Helios, and all the people of the royal family for that matter. He would never let Helios out of his sight!”

‘So what do you want us to do, Aria?” Troy asked.

“We should search for all of them,” Giles interjected, “We have only ⅖ of our defense at the castle right now, so maybe it should just be the three of us who leave. Everyone else can stay behind.”

“I didn’t know your name was Aria…” Troy muttered.

“No Giles, Troy can’t come with us. If anything was to happen to the castle, Troy would be needed,” Aria said.

“Then you and I could go together,” Giles replied.

“I won’t allow it,” Troy said, glaring at Giles. “I will not allow you to go into the woods, at night, all by yourself with Aria. I won’t allow it.”

“Stop being so overprotective of her! She’s a knight like all the rest of us! She can take care of herself,” Giles screamed.

“Troy, Giles’s right. I can take care of myself. Plus, Yukiko is here by my side. I should take him along, but I must ask for one person as reinforcements, in case Giles, here, dies in the woods,” Aria said.

“Who do you want to take?” Troy asked.

“Jameson,” Aria whispered after some thought.

“Why Jameson? He’s the weakest of all the knights?” Giles said.

“Because if the castle was to be attacked, Troy would need the stronger knights here. That would be us. But we’re needed to save the prince, so we can’t risk taking another strong knight. We have to take a weaker one. Plus, we’re both strong. Jameson might not be good at jousting or sword fighting, but he knows how to fight when he sees his friends in trouble. He’s like a secret weapon that we need to fix. I don’t know how to explain it, but I trust Jameson’s the right choice,” Aria said.

Troy nodded, and the three knights were released into the cold night air.

Kaliese Legend Library: The Perfect Monarch

A very long time ago, long before the customs of today, long before your great grandmother, or your great-great-great-great-great grandmother, was step foot on this Earth, there was nothing but a huge meadow that ran for miles and miles, as far as the eye can see. No one knows when, no one knows how, but the animals inhabited dear Mother Earth first. After a while, we humans took our first breath of the dewy, fresh air and surfaced.

The first humans on the Earth built a huge civilization on the flat plain. As the constructed their buildings out of wood and stone, they were also constructing the foundation of their lives. Everyday they worked together to build a shelter from the materials that the Earth gave. They ate the sweet little bud-like jewels on the bushes, which they called raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. They learned to hunt animals, whose meat was used for food and whose skin was used for cloth. The animal’s bones could be crafted to make everything, from a sword to a needle.

As our ancestors grew even more intelligent and creative, they realized that they would need a ruler. Someone strong who would lead their hunts and teach the next generation how to battle to with a bear. Someone who was gentle enough to teach the art of needlework. Whose delicate fingers could craft a needle that would sew many great works, to a sword, which would be wield by the strongest.

Many men, who thought to highly of themselves, battled each other, trying to prove to the people that they would be a strong leader. Blood stained those swords and the hearts of many people. Until, alas, only hot-headed men remained. The people realized that they would have to hold a contest, one that did not require killing another contestant.

As the people pondered the idea of a perfect contest, a young girl, perhaps sixteen years of age, said that she had the perfect idea.

“Whomever proves that they would have the greatest worth as a ruler shall be crowned. However, there are a few exceptions. You may not throw your blades at each other's throats. If any of you decide to break that law, your name shall be erased from our minds and cleansed from ever being said again after the deed is done. You may do whatever else to prove your worth. You have three days to complete this challenge,” she said.

The three men laughed. They all believed that proving their worth would be an easy task. All they had to do was show they are strong through their tasks.

On the first day, the men challenged each other to see who could carry the most amount of water from the river. The first man carried seven buckets of water from the river and dumped it all in a huge pot for soup, which was later used to feed the village. The second man carried five buckets of water from the river to the village. When he reached the village, he put all the buckets of water in his tent. It was later found that he had used the water to bathe his own family. The last man carried three buckets of water from the river and used all three to water the plants.

On the second day, each man tried to catch the biggest prey. The first man was able to catch a deer. He gave the meat to his family to eat and used the deerskin to make a new pair of mocassins. The second man was able to catch thirteen trout. He stored all of them in his family’s tent. It was later found that his family ate three fish for breakfast, five for lunch, and six for dinner. He told the sixteen year old girl that the remaining fish shall be his breakfast. The third man caught five rabbits. He shared the meat with his family, giving them two of his rabbits. One rabbit, he used to make some type of doll for his child. As for the other two, he ate them, and used the skin to make a pair of socks.

On the final day, the three men set out to look for something big to prove their worth. The first man came back with five buckets of water and some trout, which he used to make soup for the village. The second man came back with a bunch of wood. He took it into his tent and used it as firewood to warm up his family. The third man came back with a bunch of plants, which he added into the soup the first man made.

At long last, the day came. The young girl will tell the villagers who should be their leader. The three man stood arrogantly in front of the crowd, waiting for their names to be called. The crowd starting whispering who they believed were chosen. Who could it be? The first man, the second, or the third.

After about what seemed to be an eternity, the young girl appeared in front of the crowd. Immediately, the three men stood up a little straighter, confident they had won.

The girl nodded at the crowd, and then at the men before speaking, “I have not chosen a perfect monarch for us yet, my people. For I’m afraid that all the men who tried to earn the crown have failed.”

The people started to mutter among themselves. The men had failed? What did they do? Who was going to be their leader? The three men looked at each other, appalled. They had failed?

The girl explained, “All your actions were done in vain.” She turned to the first man. “At first, you seemed to be a good candidate. After all, you made everyone so much soup, that we still have leftovers! But you were not wise as a ruler should be. You were also selfish sometimes, and a ruler should always put his people first. On that first day, you gathered seven buckets of water from the river to our village… yet you used it all for soup. To feed our people, only three buckets of water would have been needed. You should have used the remaining four buckets for other tasks, like watering the plants, cleaning the meat, washing the villagers’ clothing, or save it in case of an emergency. On that second day, you caught a deer. Instead of dividing the meat evenly among our people, you gave it all to your family. Not only that, you used the deer skin to make yourself a new pair of mocassins. On the last day, you made an error. As I said before, the village only need three buckets of water to make enough soup to fill us all. You could have saved those last two buckets in case of an emergency.”

“As for you,” said the girl to the second man, “you put your family and yourself above everyone else. A ruler like you would be unfair and not wise. You were the most selfish of them all. The first day, you used all five buckets of water to bathe your family when you could have used it to support the village. On that second day, you caught thirteen trout. Those trout could have been used to feed the village, yet you and your family devoured nearly all the trout within a day. On the last day, you came back with a cartful of wood. Yet instead of using it to make a campfire for all the families, you used it on your own family. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing to put your family above all else, but a ruler needs to know when to put his people first too, for they are also his family.”

“And you, sir, seem to be a combination of the first and second man. On the first day, you used all three buckets you carried to water the plants. You could have used one bucket to water the plants and the other two could be added into our village drinking barrels. On the second day, you caught five rabbits. You gave two to your family as food and one was used to fasten a toy for your child. You had two rabbits left... but you didn’t even share a single bit with the rest of the village! Instead, you ate them and made yourself a pair of socks. On the final day, you came back with a bunch of plants, which was added into the soup. This might have been the wisest choice you ever made. I have no problem with this choice besides the fact that you forgot to take the seeds out of the fruit. We could have used those seeds to plant later on!” the girl exclaimed.

“All these men have failed to make wise decisions to help support our community, so I apologize. I have not found a perfect ruler for my village. I shall keep trying until my village gets the ruler they deserve,” the girl said.

The crowd started whispering among themselves. They knew who they wanted to be as their ruler.

“How about you, dear?” an old woman spoke from the midst of the crowd. “You seem to know a lot about being a good ruler. You know the wisest choices a ruler should make. I think you deserve the crown.”

Other parts of the crowd started cheering her name. They wanted her to be their ruler, and no one else.

The three men took the crown, which was a laurel woven from vines and flowers, and placed it on her head. That day, the sixteen year old girl was crowned queen of her village. What was her name? Well, I’ll tell you since it’ll play an important part in history. Her name was Kaliese.

Zoran
"Yes, that is our daughter" Zoran answered Helios. With his voice getting noticeably softer as he added "her name is Luxa".

Luxa
Luxa stared into the mirror in confusion. Who was the strange man sitting at her dining room table? And why was he there? She was slowly washing up for dinner, hoping that either of her parents would come up to check on her, and in the meantime answer all the questions plaguing her thoughts. After running her hairbrush through her hair for the umpteenth time, Luxa sighed and knew she would just have to back downstairs without knowing anything. Before taking the first step, Luxa smoothed her clean navy blue dress. Taking a deep breath, she descended down the steps.

When Luxa had first stepped into the room, she was too shocked to truly admire the strange mans looks. Now as she got her second look of him, she noticed his kind green eyes, and the messy brown hair that she found herself longing to run her fingers through. With the loose clothing he wore, that she assumed to be hunting apparel, she couldn't see much of his figure but could tell he was strong.

Luxa finally realized she was staring and dropped her eyes to the floor. "Hello" she whispered. She then turned to her parents. "Ma,Pa... whats going on?" She asked worriedly.

Helios

Before Zoran or Aruna could say a word, he spoke. "I was off hunting in the woods and lost my way. I was injured when my horse and I reached a darker area of the woods. She was spooked and threw me off her back. Luckily, I was able to calm her down and we found your cottage. Your parents were kind enough to offer me shelter and food until I heal."

Helios smiled politely at Luxa. He crystal-like voice still ringing in his head. "Pardon me for not introducing myself. My name is Helios, Helios A...Aliso. And your father tells me you are Luxa? It's a very beautiful name."

Helios felt the urge to add the words "Almost as beautiful as you," by though it would be rather awkward and strange. He hardly knew this girl and she would think he was trying to hit on her. He was just trying to be friendly, but it was hard, since he wanted to flirt with her a bit.

It would be a bit different from talking to the young ladies of the court, who dressed in puffed sleeves gowns and waltzed everyday. He could flirt shamelessly with them, since they seemed to enjoy the attention. But Luxa would be different. Although her beauty rivaled that of a noble, she dressed in an outfit similar to rags, but Helios had no problem with that. With the court ladies, he knew their family for many years and knew where they came from. For Luxa, she was nothing more than a stranger. If he was to flirt with her, he had to know her first.

"Was he just trying to find an excuse to talk to this lovely stranger or did he really want to know more about her?" he thought. After a while of staring at her while she answered, he realized the answer to his question. Both.

Luxa
Luxa listened to the unknown man's reason for being in her home. She finally relaxed a little, feeling a little more comfortable that the man wasn't here to harm her, or her family. Through she felt a little more reassured, the idea of a stranger staying in her home wasn't appealing. Especially one who made her thoughts disappear, and make her self-conscious of the way she looks. With this thought through, Luxa was suddenly ashamed. Here she was thinking about her comfort, when all this man was asking of her family was to allow him to stay and heal. She was being selfish. What else could they do while he injured?

The man smiled again, bringing her away from her doubt. "Pardon me for not introducing myself. My name is Helios, Helios A...Aliso. And your father tells me you are Luxa? Its a very beautiful name." His voice was like warm honey, it made her heart flutter and she felt giddy. There was something whispering in the back of her mind through. Some worry that she was trying to grasp. The way Helios introduced himself... it almost seemed like he didn't want to tell her his last name. She payed no more attention to this through, brushing it of as her being too over analysing. He just fell of his horse, surely there was a chance he hit his head anyways, which would explain the hesitation.

Her cheeks warmed as she realized what Helios had said after introducing himself. "Thank you Helios" Luxa gently spoke. "It is very nice to meet you, I am glad you were able to find our home and get here on your own."

After a thought she beamed looking him back in the eyes "You have a beautiful horse... what is her name?"

Helios felt the urge to add the words "Almost as beautiful as you," by though it would be rather awkward and strange. He hardly knew this girl and she would think he was trying to hit on her. He was just trying to be friendly, but it was hard, since he wanted to flirt with her a bit.

Ren
"Oomph"

Ren landed hard on his feet after jumping down from and an 8-story room window to the roof of a lower window. He peered back behind him only to find total darkness, the window to the room he had just left still closed, after he had shut it after sneaking out. He half expected one of the gang members to be coming through, waving their gun at him. He let out a sigh of relief when he deemed himself safe. Ren smirked at the bag in is hands. He had once again stole a bag of shillings right out from under the 'superior' men's noses. And everyone thought Ren was good for nothing.

He stealthily jumped down from the roof, and managed to climb his way down to the ground. With one last look behind him, Ren disappeared into the shadows to count his findings worth alone in the dark.

Helios

"Ah, you mean Holly. She's quite a beauty isn't she. Do you have any pets?" he asked. After thinking for a second, he added,"Not that I think of Holly as a pet. She's more of a friend. A strong and beautiful friend."

He was glad to be able to talk to Luxa with such ease. He could already feel himself trusting her, which rarely happened with anyone else. He was at ease right now, doing nothing more then talking to a lovely maiden and basking in the earth of the fire, feeling safer than he ever did at the castle.

Suddenly, he realized,'Aria, Troy, and the other knights. They must be searching for me. It's wrong of me to make them worry.' But his thoughts of the knights were quickly wiped away once he heard Luxa's velvet-like voice again.

Aria

All Aria wanted to do right now was stab Giles. He had been criticizing Jameson and complaining about bringing him along non stop.

"Why did you bring him? Look at him, he's absolutely clueless about what he's suppose to be doing! It would have been much more useful...."Giles stared at the blade pressed close to his neck. His horse had stopped moving, since it saw Aria pull out her sword and probably wanted to help her find a way to make Giles shut up as well.

Aria growled,"Giles, I want you to zip your lips. I am this close to sending you back to the medic, so please ZIP IT!"

Aria's golden eyes blazed with the fire of anger. Giles nodded, still staring at her blade. Yukiko growled at Giles once the blade was removed, probably giving Giles one last warning.

Aria sighed. Her eyes searched the ground for any evidence of the other knights or the prince. Nothing... Nothing... Nothing... Leaves untrampled, footprints unseen...

"Did you hear that?" Jameson's sharp voice pierced though the darkness.

"Hear what? The wind?" Giles scowled.

Aria listened carefully, turning in the direction in which Jameson was facing. No sound... No sound... No s... A whinny?

"Jameson's right! I heard a horse whinnying in that direction. Great work, J!" Aria shouted, bolting towards the sound.

Jameson smiled smugly in Giles direction before following Aria, leaving their fellow knight to have a moment of silence.
