Northwind smiled slightly. "I do, too. Here, I'll get you something to eat and then you can sleep." He padded out of the den and towards the fresh-kill pile, picking out a mouse which he carried back in to Streamsong. "Here you go."

Amberstone returned with some moss soaked in water, gently squeezing it into Briarpatch's slightly open mouth. She set the used moss down and gently touched her tail to Pebblestrike's flank. "Don't worry," she meowed. "She's still breathing and her heart's still beating. She's going to live."

Streamsong smiled crookedly at Northwind, still not fully back to rightness, but working her way there. "Thanks, Northwind," she meowed. She took a bite of the mouse, chewed, and swallowed. "Do you want some? You're probably hungry too."

Pebblestrike looked up at Amberstone forlornly. "That's good," he mumbled. "What about the kits? Will they be okay?" He looked down at Briarpatch's bulging flank, as if waiting for the kits to come to him and tell him they would be okay right then and there.

Bluemist picked up the remainder of her herbs and padded out of the den, leaving the newly patched-up Goldenstar to sleep. She walked across the clearing to her own den to sleep, having not gotten any since the night before and suddenly realizing that she was exhausted. She glanced towards the nursery where she could hear Wavekit jabbering about catching fish, and she could barely suppress a smile.

Northwind shook his head. "I'll be fine for now. If you don't think you can finish it though, then I'll have some." He gave her a crooked grin, trying to lighten the mood.

Amberstone nodded. "They should be okay, too." Then she looked at Pebblestrike and meowed, "Now you need to go and eat, then sleep. The Clan needs their deputy up and about. Briarpatch will be safe with me."

Streamsong glanced down at the mouse, seeming to think for a moment, then looked up at Northwind and shook her head. "No, I think I might be able to finish it all. I just don't know if you're hungry or not. There can't be much prey left on the fresh-kill pile, since it was just night time and all." She gestured with a twitch of her tail towards the lightening sky. "You'll probably have to go on patrol soon, y'know. You need prey. I'll just be laying here sleeping, so I won't need that much, and whenever you get back from patrol, I know you'll have something with you, so you can always give that to me, if you want." Her crooked smile grew wider, and the fog that clouded her mind seemed to clear a little as she used this logic.

Pebblestrike glanced at Briarpatch's closed eyes, then nodded. "Okay," he meowed. He leaned down and licked Briarpatch's ear, then looked at Amberstone. "Come and get me the moment she opens her eyes." He stood for a moment longer, watching his mate, then sighed and padded out of the den and into the clearing, disappearing with an anxious flick of his tail.

Bluemist padded into her den, setting the remaining herbs in her den. She glanced at one of the warriors that was sleeping in a pile of moss off to the side of her den, and sighed, padding over and sniffing his wounds quietly before going to her own nest. Her exhaustion matched her hunger, and she decided that she'd sleep first, curling up with her tail over her nose and closing her eyes.

Northwind laughed. "Yeah, you're probably right. I think I should go and sleep now." He paused, then meowed. "I hope you feel better soon, Streamsong."

Amberstone nodded. "Of course, Pebblestrike." She took one last look at Briarpatch, then looked towards where Streamsong and Northwind were. She frowned a little, then shook her head and padded back to her nest to sleep. She was a tired as the others.

Streamsong smiled at Northwind and stretched forward, ignoring her muscles as they screamed in protest, and touched her nose to his. "Thank you... Good night," she murmured, drawing back into her nest and curling up to eat the prey and then sleep.

Pebblestrike padded to the warriors den and nudged the trailing branches aside. He slipped into the darkness where other cats were already curled up, fast asleep. Picking his way around tails and paws, Pebblestrike reached his nest and sank down with a sigh, closing his eyes and falling asleep.

Northwind smiled gently. "Good night, Streamsong." He padded out of the den, carrying the half-eaten mouse in his jaws. He sat down to eat a little of it, then stood and went to sleep in his nest in the warrior's den.

Goldenstar peeled his eyes open and looked around. His neck was stiff from the wound that was still healing, but the scent of blood had vanished from his nose. Instead, the sharp scent of herbs surrounded him, and when he looked to a claw-mark on his shoulder, he could see cobwebs still clinging to it, despite the thrashing he'd done in his sleep. He frowned, then picked up the faint scent of Bluemist from the night before, and hissed in annoyance.

Foxpelt woke up and stretched, padding outside the warrior's den. Riverstorm was already up, and, spotting Foxpelt, walked over. "Foxpelt, I need you on the dawn patrol," he meowed. "Take one or two cats with you and take extra care by the Gathering-place." Foxpelt nodded, then called two of his friends- Berryfur and Hawkeye- to go on patrol with him.

Riverstorm padded over to Honeythorn and her mate, Dustclaw, and asked them the go on a hunting patrol with him. When they nodded agreement, he led them out of the camp and began to weave his way up a steep, rocky path that led up and down the mountains that encircled their camp.

Northwind yawned and opened his eyes, blinking the sleep away. Standing up, he stretched a little and padded outside to lick his pelt. Once done, he padded over to Amberstone's den. "Amberstone?" he meowed. When the golden she-cat looked up, he asked, "Is Streamsong awake?" Amberstone looked over, and shrugged, careful not to say anything. She didn't want to wake either cat up if she could help it.

Heatherkit was already up and sitting on Maplekit's tail. She was grinning, waiting for either her sister or brother to wake up and play with her.

Dawnstar sat on the Highrock, the curtain of vines that blocked the entrance to her den behind her in the tree that also served as the back of the Highrock. She watched the comings and goings of the camp, then turned her attention to the fresh-kill pile. It was pitifully low.

Bluemist still lay deep in the moss of her nest, fast asleep. The sound of the pawsteps pounding the ground as they raced out of the camp made her ears twitch, and she straightened with a grunt. Getting out of the nest and setting her paws heavily on the ground, she padded towards one of the warriors that had to spend the night in her den. Bending down, she nosed Badgerstripe's broad black paw aside to look at the deep scratch on his belly. It had been bleeding a lot the night before, and his Clanmates had had to carry him to her den.

Streamsong slept through Amberstone and Northwind's conversation. Her dreams were filled with a dark forest. The undergrowth began to glow one by one, leaving her in a luminous forest of greens, blues, and the occasional red. Her wonder made her smile, and she couldn't help leaping and bounding through the ferns, eyes wide with amazement like a kit's.

Wavekit rolled over onto his back, swatting at something that tickled his nose. Half-awake, he slapped his paws together, opened his eyes with a frown, and realized that he'd caught Heatherkit's tail-tip. "Get off," he muttered, pushing her away even though she was sitting on Maplekit, not him.

Pebblestrike padded out of the warriors' den, pausing to lick one of his paws that had been twisted the night before. He glanced towards Dawnstar and waved his tail in greeting, then padded to the medicine cat's den. He peered into the den to see Briarpatch, then sighed, disappointed to see that she wasn't awake yet. He quietly withdrew to lead a hunting patrol, nodding to Whitecloud, Tigerstripe, and his apprentice, Jaypaw, to join him in the forest.

Goldenstar padded slowly out of his den, muscles stiff. He sat down in the shadow of the tree that he usually addressed his Clan from, eyes glowing as they reflected the rising sun's light. He glanced towards his deputy, then his son, letting out a small sigh and looking away. His heart gave a twist as he thought of his mate, Yellowflower. The grief that washed over him was so strong that he slid to the ground.
