Naru walked through the leaves of the forest, his black talons crunching the leaves beneath his feet. He held the feathers of his tail gently under his arm, his green eyes scanning the area around him warily to see any danger around. He wasn't used to this area- and he didn't know if any humans would be around. He didn't really relish the idea of running into anyone at all- none the less someone attacking him.
He let out a long nervous sigh, leaning over to a tree as he felt his stomach rumble. He reached up to a branch and held his hand out to a small sprig, letting his golden magic flow out his palm and into the branch. An apple soon grew on the sprig, falling into his hand when it became too heavy to be held by the small twig.
He bit into the apple, humming happily as he ate and continued walking.

Well, she knew for sure now: Honey hated nature. She bit her lips around a frustrated shriek and pulled another long, thorned vine from her leg, glaring at the little drops of blood pricked into her skin. Okay, so maybe wearing shorts hadn't been the forest's fault, but it was too hot to wear any of the other clothes in her pack than the old pair of pants she'd hacked to shortness.

And maybe it wasn't the forest's fault that she'd thought it would be fun to try traveling off the path, either.

But it was easier for her pride to think of this place as a cursed forest, someplace no one else could possibly survive, either.

As she was considering the possibility of ancient sorcerers placing hexes on the seedlings so they would grow up to ensnare and kill unsuspecting, innocent women, she heard a small sound, or maybe it was the movement in the corner of her eye, that made her freeze in her steps. Turning her head, she saw a burst of red bloom in the branches of the tree above her, on a branch sprouting from its other side, and as she watched, blinking to check that her eyes hadn't deceived her, the red turned into an apple that grew too heavy for the branch to hold; the fruit fell and rather than a dull thump of hitting the forest floor, Honey distinctly heard the sound of the fruit hitting flesh.

A sorcerer indeed. Honey had tried that spell before and had never, not once, had it work that quickly, and she was lucky if she got a pear the size of an acorn.

Slowly, Honey leaned to the side, and blinked again to see a blue man, humming to himself, walking away with the apple in his hand. He wasn't human, no, he was...humanus. Honey had encountered a few humanus before, never in close contact...

...but she knew the authorities would pay her a bounty if she brought one in.

Honey's red lips twisted into a smile, and very quietly, she dug in her pack for her book of spells. There was no way she could physically overpower him; even if he wasn't the tallest or brawniest man she'd ever seen, she knew that if someone else was going to try to drag her away, they'd need magic. So she flipped to the page she knew held the binding spells, the promise spells, the ones that kept things glued together, until she found the spell she wanted. She skimmed it quickly; yes, this should work. He wouldn't be able to move more than a five-foot radius from her, but she'd be able to move without being bound to him. He'd be dragged behind her like a dog on an invisible leash.

Abandoning her half-formed plan to get to the other side of the forest, Honey slipped through the trees after the peacock humanus, trying to keep as silent as possible, following the sound of his humming. She recited the words to the spell a few times over in her head, trying to get the inflections and hand gestures right mentally.

And then, when she was sure she had it right, she burst out in front of him, smiling up at him as if it was completely normal for a human and a humanus to cross paths in the middle of a path-less forest. "Hello," she purred up at him, and then she spoke the spell as quickly as she could, trying to spit the words out before he could react.

((Bit of a text wall... ^^; Sorry!))

Naru looked at the woman in front of him with wide eyes, the feathers on his head raising in fear as memories of captivity ran through his head. He dropped the apple as she started to recite some sort of spell, knowing that if she finished, he would likely be hurt- or worse.
He let his golden magic flare out around him, not knowing what it would do- he just wanted to do something, and he knew that this was probably the quickest reaction he could do.
He let his tail fall to the ground as he reached his arms up to cover his face instinctively, a surprise yell coming out of him.

((oh wow, I'm having a total fail day  this is pretty pathetic compared to your post XD))

Honey blinked and let out a little half-shriek at the humanus' shock of golden magic, falling on her bottom and shrieking again as she'd landed on a rock that seemed to want to touch her spine. She scrambled sideways, off the rock, and hopped to her feet, on the alert now. She stared at the peacock man, who now stood covering his face as if worried she was going to slug him.

Poor dear. Honey had a moment of guilt before deciding she didn't want to feel guilty. "Oh, I'm not going to hit you, sweetie," she sighed, rolling her eyes and running her hands through her hair. She didn't feel any different, other than her wounded pride. But maybe the spell had worked after all...

She stepped a few strides back, raising her hands palms-up before her, keeping her eyes on the humanus. "Well, I suppose I'll be on my way..." She frowned, stuck her hands out behind her. She'd bumped into a tree, or some rock, or something solid...

She turned her chin.

Okay. So something solid and invisible.

She turned around and tried to walk away, only to find that she was encountering some sort of...barrier. Refusing to logically understand what had happened--because it could only be one thing, couldn't it?--Honey pressed her palms against the invisible wall and leaned all her weight onto it, her cheeks flaming, her heels digging into the soft earth as she tried to push forward.

((Pish, I don't think you're capable of posting faily things. ;3))

Naru separated his arms enough to look at her through the space, his eyes narrowing suspiciously at her sudden kindness. What spell had she cast? He didn't feel any different. He thought a moment, registering all his body parts and looking himself over when she started to walk away- or tried to, anyway.
She stopped and couldn't seem to move. She even went so far as to start pushing against something- as if there was a wall around her he couldn't see.
"What in the hell are you doing?" He asked, confused by her behavior. He still didn't know what spell she had cast- and it might be a delayed reaction of some sort- he was still tense, his feathers raised slightly in his anxiety. She had been kind to him- but only after she had attacked him- part of him was wary of her, another part yearning for some sort of social contact.
He didn't quite know what else to do, so he remained silent, watching her feet dig into the ground, his arms lowering as he looked at the rivets of effort in the dirt with more confusion.

Oh, this was too much embarrassment. Trying to gather the last shreds of her dignity, Honey turned around and took a half step closer to the humanus, raising her arms over her head. "I'm trying to take my leave and lick my injured pride in private. But watch this." Her voice high and sharp with panic and frustration, she let herself fall backwards with one palm out.

And as if there was a wall there, her palm hit flat against the barrier and caught her fall. She leaned at a sharp angle, too sharp to stand up without support.

So there it was.

She growled and put both hands on the barrier again, this time trying to find out its width, its height. Even on the tips of her toes it was still there, and she walked around, following it and coming around full circle.

If the humanus was the center, the circle was about five feet around him.

Honey laughed humorlessly, like a crazy woman, and put her hands on her hips. "Well. I suppose that's that." She looked back at the humanus and stuck her hand out in a friendly way, her smile half-insane. "I'm Honey, and it's nice to meet you, doll. Apparently I'm stuck with you."

He watched her lean back, his feathers falling as he saw her lean at an otherwise impossible angle. Okay... so perhaps her spell had worked, but...
Had he somehow deflected it? He certainly hadn't meant to- just to protect himself from anything she might do. She walked around him, Naru not able to help but feel more nervous as she circled him completely, then looked back at him. She made a terribly uneasy smile, offering her hand to him in a gesture of greeting.
"Wait- stuck?" He said in shock. He didn't want to be stuck with anyone who would laugh like that- none the less a human. "What do you mean stuck?!" He said, starting to panic a bit.

Honey's smile cracked at the edges and she thought she might faint, so she squatted down and put her head between her knees, bobbing slightly up and down on her heels. "Okay. Okay," she muttered at the ground, her arms wrapped around her middle. "Okay. Okay. Okay."

Breathing deeply, she tried to squelch the panic bubbling up; since the peacock man didn't seem to be doing any better, she probably needed to be at least a little sane right now. "Okay, look, I'm really sorry about this, sugar." She turned, took off her pack, and pulled the book of spells out from where she'd tucked it just before jumping out at the humanus. Which she was just realizing was probably the worst decision she'd made in a while. Flipping through the pages, she stood up and brought the page with the spell she'd used under the humanus' nose. "This is the spell I tried to use. I was going to turn you in for the money. And I'm thinking you bounced it back at me." She sighed and gave a half shrug. "I suppose that's what I get. But if you could just undo it, maybe we can both go our separate ways, no harm done, and I'll have learned my lesson."

Naru looked down at the book, his eyes wide when he saw the illustrations to spells. He was beginning to become concerned for the woman, and even though he had attacked her, he felt the urge to comfort her.
Unfortunately, that wasn't what he could do in this case. He looked at the foreign lettering on the book and looked up at her uneasily.
"Um... I don't know human spells." He said, hoping she wouldn't freak out again. "I only know my own humanus magic- I don't know if I can even use these spells if I could read... whatever that is." He looked down at the gibberish with curiosity, his green eyes scanning over the pages in interest. Though he didn't know how to read them- he yearned to know how.
