The Hair Guild - We Like Talking About Hair

Postby GrowlingCupcake » May 2nd, 2018, 6:26:12 pm

Firstly: I am not going to discriminate between any hair lengths, Like your short hair? Great! Trying to grow it out? Great! Have knee length hair? Great! I am just looking for a like-minded group of individuals who care about their hair, want to share tips on how to increase thickness, reduce frizz, product reviews, hair styles recommendations, etc. Any gender/sex is welcome. Extensions are welcome.

I am just interested in a guild on MS where we can talk about these things, and the struggle - or not - of living with out hair.

Some resources:
The Long Hair Community - this can help you find your hair type (straight as a pin to ultra curly), thickness, and strand coarseness. It also discusses varying lengths, and has plenty of threads dedicated to different hair types, and growing out to a specific length. In addition, it also has plenty of links to hair styles, reviews, and the like.
Visual guide to hair lengths - this seems to be the most accurate, and comprehensive list I have been able to find.
Another'visual guide to hair lengths.

I am also including some links from LHC:
Guide to visual hair typing - this can be a bit tricky, and you can be in between. It also covers strand thickness (how fine is your hair), and overall thickness/volume.

I don't know if anyone will be interested in this, but I figured why not :)

Please feel free to use this form if you think it will be helpful:'

UserID on MS: GrowlingCupcake
UserID on LHC (if applicable and/or not private): GrowlingCupcake
Current hair length: Wait to hip/tailbone.
Desired hair length: As long as I can manage; I would like to reach classic or midthigh at least but it depends on my terminal length.
Dyed/Not dyed: Dyed about a month ago.
If not dyed, have you previously dyed it, and when?:
Hair type: 2A - "loose, stretched out S-waves throughout the hair"
Strand thickness: Medium
Overall thickness/volume: Medium
Do you use any special methods to wash your hair?: Right now I am trying wash-condition-condition, followed by lightweight oil on my ends.
Picture (entirely optional): N/A
Any other information you would like to include: It frustrates me how all the 'long' hairstyles I look up are for people with BSL hair or around there. They just don't work with someone with hair as long as mine. It's all just a pain in the ass, but I really want to see how long I can get it to grow.

UserID on MS: HiddenMystic
UserID on LHC (if applicable and/or not private): N/A
Current hair length: Unbraided about 4" longer than classic length I think
Desired hair length: Til it stops growing lol
Dyed/Not dyed: Not dyed - nature is turning it silver fast enough
If not dyed, have you previously dyed it, and when?: Never dyed it
Hair type: 1a - straight as a board
Strand thickness: Fine
Overall thickness/volume: thin
Do you use any special methods to wash your hair?: No except to condition the bottom 2' or so
Picture (entirely optional): -
Any other information you would like to include: My last true haircut was in 1970 - a month before I started high school. It was butchered so badly I decided to never cut it again and I haven't. Obviously I am old - and have lost a lot of my hair as I have aged....thank god I don't have bald spots just less hair. My braid used to be about 5" around - now it is about 1.5" T_T

I'd love to have hair that long! I did two or three cuts (4 to 6 inches), and several trims over the past 7 years so it probably would be classic if I had left it alone; but it needed it. The air here is so damned dry in winter, and I wanted it to look more even before my wedding.

I also wish mine would silver! It's naturally black-brown so dyeing it is a pain in the ass. I really want it to silver, and then start dyeing it all sorts of colours. But I'm 30, and I barely have any silver so I suspect it's going to take a bit D: :t--.-:

I doubt I'll post much, as I don't really take care of my hair, but why not?

UserID on MS: Wolfsister
UserID on LHC (if applicable and/or not private): n/a
Current hair length: lower back (between waist and hip)
Desired hair length: an inch or so longer than now
Dyed/Not dyed: nope
If not dyed, have you previously dyed it, and when?: never
Hair type: Around a 3a if it doesn't weight itself down to much
Strand thickness: medium
Overall thickness/volume: medium when long, thick when short
Do you use any special methods to wash your hair?: Not really. Shampoo scalp, condition the rest, brush straight while wet. If I want to let it be curly, leave loose or pile into a messy bun to dry; if I want it to behave, braid it while wet.
Picture (entirely optional):
Any other information you would like to include: I shed an insane amount--seriously, it's everywhere. I mostly keep my hair long because it's easier to deal with that way, and I just cut it myself these days--I trim maybe 1 inch per month, which is about how fast it grows. Last time I put layers back in, but they even out pretty quickly. As I get older, I'm hoping my hair will go the beautiful bright white my grandma had--hers started changing pretty early, too.
