This thread was created to be a place where new (and not so new) members could ask questions they have regarding MagiStream. Our mentors and staff will answer questions as soon as they can, but if any helpful members of MagiStream want to help us out then feel free! Our only request is that one question gets one answer, unless the asker says they want more information.
Apply to be a Mentor here: Mentor Application Form
Apply to be a Student here: Student Application Form
The staff will go through these forms and assign students to mentors based on a variety of factors. Students and mentors are not tied to the project and may leave at any time. If a mentor leaves, the Council would appreciate advance warning where possible.
Staff list:
Council members - DevilCrest, WinterRaven, KooshyKoKo, Eljazo, Jinglepupskye.
Temporary Replacements (for WinterRaven and DevilCrest): Mukumuku, TNHawke

The following are some general guidelines highlighting optimal traits and behavior for both mentors and students to follow as they participate in the MSMP.
Student guidelines:
- Students may not choose their own mentor - they will be assigned one by the Council. Mentors agree to take students under their wing to help them out. Please respect this and treat them with the same respect everyone deserves. They have lives too; and thus will not be on 24/7.
- Try to use proper English i.e not chat speak, and if English is not your first language let us know - there are many different people here, one of our mentors may also speak your language. If you need help you are more likely to get a detailed (therefore useful) answer if you ask a detailed question.
- Students are reminded that resources such as the FAQ are available and mentors may refer students to such resources if appropriate. If you don't understand something - say so! We are here to help.
Mentor guidelines:
- Mentors are expected to take on at least one student, depending on the number of students in the project, unless they are on hiatus. It is up to the mentor to decide how many students is too many - remember you need to have time to give them one-on-one attention. Mentors are also asked to participate in answering questions posted in the MSMP thread.
- Respect- Though mentors are in a position of some authority, they must never forget that they are working with real people, who deserve to be treated as such.
- Patience- Mentors work with real people; they are different from each other. Accepting the pace at which some students gather and learn information is vital to being an effective mentor.
- Responsibility- Mentors do not only aide their students, newcomers to MagiStream. They should be role models for behaviour in the forums. Being accountable for one's actions and words set proper examples.
- Maturity- Mentors should have a certain level of maturity, this ties in closely with the above three points.
- Politeness- Mentors should be civil and courteous when working with students and each other.
- Knowledgeable- Mentors are expected to teach and answer questions their students will have about MagiStream. As such is the case mentors should know information covered in the FAQ, the Rules of Conduct, how the trade system works, some basic features in the User Control Panel, and the names of creatures and how to obtain them. Any other information to know or point out will probably be selected by the students, in the form of a question. Mentors should be willing to rephrase answers to ensure the student understands.
- Professionalism- Mentors are meant to provide the teacher portion of a teacher-student relationship. That should be kept in mind when working with students. That isn’t to say that mentors can’t be friends with their students, there should just be some distinction. The boundary between mentor and friend should be determined in a case-by-case fashion with each student. Mentors should recognise when a relationship has broken down and refer to the Council before any further actions.
In addition to those general qualities, mentors should also be available on a fairly regular basis. Being online at least once a day is preferable. Mentors must try to leave their own issues at the door when dealing with students. Eggsitting for students is highly discouraged, though clicking on students' eggs/hatchies are fine.
