The Basics
Flight Rising is a game in which you are in charge of a clan of dragons under the wing of a dragon god. You may breed, gene (apply inheritable patterns), dress up, and battle your dragons, among other things.

About Flight Rising

Lore

The world of Flight Rising consists of eleven domains, each dominated by an element and presided over by a dragon god/goddess of that element. -More to come-

----

Elements

The eleven elements are: light, shadow, fire, water, earth, wind, arcane, ice, lightning, nature, and plague. When starting, you must choose an elemental god to align with; your starters will be of that element, and any dragons you breed will be of that element regardless of the parent dragons' elemental alignments, i.e. if you are shadow-aligned, trade for two light dragons, and breed them, the offspring would be shadow dragons.

Currently, the effects of being a particular element have two main effects.

One is affecting the appearance of a dragon.
Different elements bestow dragons with different eye colours.
Spoiler
Image

The other is when fighting in the Coliseum; much like other games, some elements trump others.

Out of gameplay, dragons of a certain element may be said to have certain abilities, ex. fire-aligned dragons may be more fire-resistant, and nature dragons may have green thumbs (if they have thumbs at all).

----

Breeds and Breeding
Flight Rising will support a robust breeding system that allows you to selectively pass down special breeds, genes, and colors.

Currently, there are eight known breeds: Fae, Mirror, Tundra, Guardian, Pearlcatcher, Ridgeback, Wildclaw, Imperial, Spiral, and Snapper.

The Fae, Mirror, Tundra, and Guardian are "starter" breeds.
Pearlcatchers, Ridgebacks, Spirals, and Skydancers can be bought with treasure.
Wildclaws and Coatls can be bought with gems.
Imperials are an exclusive, KickStarter-only breed.

Image

Breeds can interbreed with one another (despite size differences) (shush it's magick). Each breed has a cooldown, the length of time varying usually with rarity (more rare means a longer cooldown).

Plentiful breeds (15 days): Fae, Mirror, Guardian, Tundra
Common breeds (20 days): Pearlcatcher, Ridgeback, Spiral, Snapper
Uncommon breeds (25 days): Skydancer
Exclusive breeds (30 days): Imperial
Rare breeds (35 days): Wildclaw, Coatl

Genes do not affect cooldown rates. Eggs are laid in nests custom-drawn for each element, and should be incubated daily for their five-day nesting period so that none die.

In Flight Rising, there are no recessive genes; hatchlings can only be either the mother's breed or the father's breed. This means that it is easy to guarantee certain hatchling breed outcomes.

There are items to change an dragon's breed. Upon changing breed, a dragon's size stats are adjusted to fit its new form.

----

Genes and Colours

Dragons come in three colours "levels", designated Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary. Each affects a different part of a dragon, and is affected by different genes specific to each level.

Primary refers to a dragon's main body colour.
Secondary refers to a dragon's wing colour, as well as possible auxiliary parts (mane, etc.).
Tertiary is normally not shown, but can be expressed when a gene is applied. Tertiary genes have full coverage (appearing both on the body and wings) and overlay both Primary and Secondary genes.

In Flight Rising, there are no recessive genes; genes are directly inherited from the mother and father. This means that it is easy to guarantee certain hatchling gene outcomes by gene-ing both parents.

One can determine what colour a dragon pair's offspring will be by doing such: For a given level, find the colours of the parents on the wheel. The shortest distance along the wheel between the parents' colours will be the offsprings' range of possible colours.

Posting to remember to look at this thread again.

This certainly looks interesting and I might give FR a try when it comes out for the general public. IDK anything about pros/cons of each alignment, but that Air/Wind dragongod looks awesome and hey! explorers!, so I might go with Wind.

Any news on approximately when the open version would come out?

Early start opened on the 5th, but it's mostly been debugging... haha... the game opens on the 8th!

Anyone looking to join? What will your flight be like? What element?

I'm really torn between Mirror and Guardian dragons as a starter breed, and I'll probably play under Wind. Later on, I'd like to get some Pearlcatchers and Wildclaws, I like those breeds the most.
Truth to be told, I don't really know that much about the game so far and will have to spend the evening looking checking out sites about it. xD

Don't forget, you can always use a breed change scroll if you decide to go some other way.

I have a Cassoawary wildclaw skin all lined up - really excited for that. Just need to find a way to get enough gems...

I'd be happy to help out, Dia! If you have questions - ask away!

On a random note, yay they finally added a server clock.

Aha, it seems like there's actually quite a bit of info on the site's encyclopedia.

Durr. What exactly do the elemental alignments affect? Stats, special abilites, or things such as colour varieties, too? How fast are the energy levels of dragons drained, i.e., how much food vs. item gathering should you do to keep them fed?
