Any ideas/tips? (My friend said he was a squirrel/troll/scorpion/gryphon. Special friend. )

Pick a color, and stick to it. If he's going to have a purple nose, throw in other purple parts to his body to tie it together.
Also, he's un-anthropomorphic enough you can (and probably should) ditch the clothes. They break up the body pattern and look a little unnatural.

(He reminds me a lot of one of my characters, actually. Perhaps they should be friends...)

I mostly want any critique on that first one. Do the legs look right? I think it's kind of hard to make out what's what, personally, and I HATE the way the wing membranes look.

For the first one, I would say the leg closest to us is a bit too stiff, as the pose of the creature is crouching the leg should be bent a little more.Other than that, I can't see much else that is wrong
I love the second one, but I think the texture is a little over-used...
