Mini venting time(sorry).
So, I've noticed that a lot of people see to hate on Flash Sentry, from EG. Now, I could understand it if the reason was 'because he's only used as a love interest for Twilight'(despite being relegated to EG only and not the show).
Except it's not, I commonly see this, used as the reason for not living him(the quote's actually from a fic involving Discord sending insulting letters to everypony but it basically sums up the most common reason for hating him)-

You don't really do anything, don't have any memorable or unique traits, and somehow a gaggle of ponies still find you fascinating for no reason other than existing.

The thing is, that could be said about all the background ponies everyone is gaga for. No really, think about it.
Vinyl Scratch, Octavia, Caramel, Time Turner, Dinky, Berry Punch, Cloud Kicker, Lyra, Bonbon, Flitter, Cloudchaser... they have even less characterization than he does yet, everyone loves them. I mean, let's break it down.

'You don't really do anything'
Non of the above ponies have done anything that directly influences the plot. I mean, ok we've seen Scratch and Octavia playing music for several parties, we saw Caramel helping with Winter Wrap up and saw the pegasus practising in Hurricane Fluttershy but, but that's not really doing anything. That's doing background pony stuff so it doesn't look static and stale.

You can't really count appearance because basically all the ponies look different or 'unique'. They never speak(ok, a couple have like, one or two lines in one episode, hardly enough to make them unique though :/) Hell, most of the names are/were fan names. Any unique traits they have are purely fanon.

I think that speaks for itself. Everyone loves them but they do nothing except appear.

It just baffles me, why is so much more acceptable to hate on him(and arguably he's more developed than they are, at least he speaks) than any of the above ponies? If I went somewhere and posted 'I hate [insert bg pony here] I'd probably get hated on. if I said 'I hate Flash Sentry' I'd have a lot of people high-fiving me instead.

And for the record, I actually do like him. Not favourite pony stats(that belongs to Luna), but I don't think he's a bad character by any stretch of the imagination.

I think there's a few reasons some bronies hate Flash, in order of most to least stupid.

One are those who feel their masculinity threatened by Twilight crushing on a guy who's more attractive/successful than they are. Flash represents the cool jock that they can't be. I think this reason is reflected in what you wrote above.

Two are people who are into shipping Twilight with the other members of the mane 6/their self-insert OC who get annoyed because it refutes their ship.

Three are those who were annoyed at the treatment of Twilight's character in Equestria Girls and don't like seeing her portrayed as a ditzy high school girl who gets a crush on the first hot boy she sees.

Four are the people who want MLP to remain free of any romantic drama with the main characters at all, and would rather focus on slice of life/adventure.

I have no opinion of Flash Sentry, honestly. He seems like a nice enough guy...er, pony. I wouldn't be upset if we saw more of him.

I love Flash Sentry! I think TwiTry is an adorable couple too. I'd love to see that develop more, actually.

Also, who else saw Twilight's Kingdom?! Omg....

Crystal Fair is an upcoming convention, dedicated to the fans of the television show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic". Crystal Fair is a non-profit, fan-run convention organized by Suomen bronyt ry (Bronies of Finland registered association).

The convention will take place between the 4th and the 6th of July 2014, at Finlandia Hall in Helsinki - Finland's capital city.
