Long ago when the world was new few lived with light. Many lived it darkness for at this time there was no moon or sun. The light was two small glowing orbs kept in a cave far to the north. One was gold the other silver. Those who had light where greedy and made others give up what food they had to even see the light, but only for a very short time did the others see it. One day a griffin chick went to see the light. In his mouth was a small piece of meat his mother had given him for dinner. When the greedy keepers took the meat from the chick they didn't let him see the light and told him he didn't have enough to see the light. He told them that was all he had. They still turned him away. Crying the chick went to the river and sat on the bank looking down at his reflection. Two koi fish, a male and a female, heard his crys. They went to him and asked what was wrong. When the griffin chick told them the koi got very mad. Having heard this story many times before the koi told the young chick not to worry. The male told him that him and his mate will take care of it and make it so everyone could see the light for free. The koi then used their magic and used water to go to the cave. The keepers tryed to stop the but the koi drowned them in water. The male the touched the gold light and the female the silver. Glowing the light's colors the koi flow to the sky on the back of a great wave. When they got there the male turned into the sun and the female the moon. They decided to come out at differnt times so every moment there will be a form of light. Now when the moon changes from a full to a new moon and back it's the female koi's moods changing. She is happy on the full moons and sad on the new moons for she never got to have children. These mates only get to be together on solar and lunar eclipses.
