Tundra Dragons

Post by Kamitsure »

(This is for the competition on the home page)

In the world of MAgi, there lived many dragons. They were the rulers of the lands, but the humans ruled over them. They sometimes lived in peace, without humans, and they had civilizations, too. This is a story about one of the villages and dragon species' greatest warrior.

There once was a dragon, a beautiful Celestial Dragon, and her name was Lairia. She was liked among all of the dragons, and she lived in the tundra, where some trees grew and it soon became snowy forests. She was respected, too. She was warrior like and pretty. Her pearly scales shone brighter than the rest of the maiden dragons. Her gold plates sparkled all day, and her eyes captivated any of the male dragons who saw her. She was living in peace for many years until she reached a certain age when she needed to settle down and find a mate.

She was hunting further in the tundra, with her mother, who was only a little elderly, since she had Lairia when she was younger than Lairia. She followed behind, and Lairia lead the way. They caught a few things, and they had to make camp for a night becasue of a blizzard. they slept well, because of an enchantment made by the creature in the middle of the tundra.

The creature in the middle of the tundra was said to be a monster, behemothic and scary in every way. It was very strong, and it had demonic wings and eyes that could burn what it saw. It was said to have awesome, mystical powers, and nothing could beat it. Of course, everyone who saw it didn't live to make it back out of the tundra alive. It stalked them quietly and picked parties off one by one, purposely trying to horrorfy them.

This creature had been hunting on the dragons for moths. Years. It killed them, ate them, and threw them in the village at midnight. nO one dared to stop it, because it was so great.

When the mother and daughter dragons awoke, they couldn't see anything becasue of this great blizzard. It was the biggest and greatest blizzard of the whole magi world. So, Lairia carried her mother, and they set off to find home. But becasue of the enchantments of the beast of the Tundra, they walked towards the center, like magnets to a fridge. They thought it was right, and after a distance, Lairia stopped and said, "Mother Lairana, where are we? We should've been home by now...?"

Lairana couldn't answer, she was just as confused as her daughter was. She pointed in a direction and Lairia carried her that way. Again towards the enter of the Tundra. Soon, they heard terrible roaring and swooshing sounds. The beast.

It was night again, and they needed to rest. They were just eating and picking their teeth when the roar they heard was overwhelming. They fell to the ground in pain, their eardrums almost exploding. Lairia looked up and saw a huge beast.

It was a brown green, and it had huge black claws. It had a large smooth handsome mane that fell to its neck. Its's eyes seemed to burn into Lairia's soul. She tried to look away but couldn't. The beast was almost five times larger than she was, so Lairia knew it couldn't be beat. Lairia couldn't move, another one of the Monster's spells. It scooped up Lairana, and it flew off, its giant red wings flapping, causing tornados almost.

Finally broken of the spell, Lairia headed off in the direction that the beast went. She heard howling, roaring, and screams. Her mother's screams. Lairia, furious, cried as she sped forward, looking in the endless tundra. She finally saw the beast. She got a good look at it before it looked at her. It was a legendary Manticore. It was huge, and it was deadly. It looked from the dead dragon's carcass, and then to Lairia's angry face, filled with tears. It put it's head back and laughed.

And Lairia lunged at the manticore.

This fight was huge, and it went on for days, neither beast getting hurt, only getting small scrathes. One day, Lairia finally climbed down and cust it's leg open. It roared, and then threw her. She was weak, and this manticore wasn't. It lunged at her and ripped open her chest, and she felt her silver blood falling, and dripping down. She could not give up.

They kept fighting, and fiunally, it threw her back again. He put his head back and laughed. Lairia knew this creature was boasting that it wold win. Furious she used her strength to fly at it at rip it's neck open. The only weak spot, she thought.

The next two days, the blizzard went away, and she dragged herself against the open tundra, the manticore's head curled up in her tail.

Lairia finally came back, and the dragons looked scared, as if something-a disaster, hurricane/tornado, maybe? No. They were listening to the roars and tears and rips of the fight from her and the manticore. The center of the tundra was actually right next to where they lived. The blizzrds just consumed and concealed it. They appraised her and she threw the head, too weak to move on. A healer, the lead helaer of the village, came to her, and sealed her wounds, using all of her strength, killing herself. Lairia, eternally grateful, became queen of the village of dragons.

She finally found a mate, Ericaros. They lived together inpeace, had three children, and died happily in their tundra village.

Because creation myths are one of the most ancient forms of legends, and not just the creation of the world. "How the elephant got his trunk" "How the rhinoceros got his skin" "The origin of the blue bonnet". Legends, historically, are not limited to individuals doing great deeds. They are also tasked with explaining the otherwise inexplicable. And note, not everyone did creation myths. Though they were rather common.
