Uhm You get shards, not creatures

There will be three winners, who will get to choose one of any creature they desire, as well as:

Whomever receives first place will also be rewarded 5 shards.
Second place will receive 3 shards.
The winner of third place will win 2 shards.

According to that *from Damien's entry when the contest started* the shards are a subprize in addition to one pet of each winner's choosing, so I think you do get to pick one Mordeth
